PREVIEW: ZAMORA – DEPORTIVO (LIGA)

10 Jan 2021
Deportivo only have 12 players available, Vázquez had to pick 6 lads from Fabril and the team is even battling a cold wave that caused many suspensions in Spain.

Referee: Victor Castellanos Argüeso
Kick-off: 17h30 CET (Ruta de La Plata)

STATISTICS: SOLID DEFENCES
Deportivo and Zamora CF are among the best defensive lines in the league. Depor have just conceded two goals in one single game, and their four goals allowed represent the second best mark in the subgroup, only behind Unionistas (3).

Meanwhile, Zamora CF have conceded eight goals, curiously the half of those goals in two home meetings, the 0-2 Vs. Unionistas, which is their only home defeat of the season, and the 3-2 victory over CD Guijuelo, which was their first home meeting of the campaign.

This is only the second season in which Deportivo is meeting Zamora CF playing for a league competition. The previous opportunity was for the Segunda B season 1980/81, and Depor won both games with a 2-0 score.

DEPORTIVO: AGAINST EVERYTHING
Sometimes there’s the feeling that the world is against you when you are trying to achieve a goal, and that’s exactly what every Depor’s player should be thinking as they plan to add the three points in the visit to Zamora. And it’s that the game is taking place in the middle of a pandemic, with the team having multiple casualties due to injuries, and to make things more difficult with the influence of storm Filomena, a cold wave that already paralyzed Madrid and several sectors in Spain are under the snow.

The storm didn’t hit Galicia and neither Zamora with its full strength, but the game was close to be suspended due to the state of the road. Actually, Depor had requested the suspension as they feared what could happen in the road (396 Km between A Coruña and Zamora). In the end the game was one of few that weren’t postponed.

Team news: Only 12 players were available for the game. Derik Osede, Miku, Borja Galán, Bóveda, Héctor Hernández and Claudio Beauvue are at the injury room. Rolan joined the list of injured men at the last minute due to a muscle issue. Then José Lara is suspended and Uche Agbo is out for COVID-19 reasons.

In the end the coach picked six lads from Fabril in order to fill the gaps: Right-back Iván Guerrero, left-back Guille Bueno, centre-back Juan Rodriguez, midfielder Álex Barba, plus strikers Adri Castro and Manu Mosquera. The coach tested a squad with three centre-backs, and with a squad with only 12 players from the first team, the plan stays as Rui Costa is the only forward available.

Man to watch: Striker Rui Costa. The Portuguese attacker hasn’t convinced yet with his performances, now he has a golden opportunity to demonstrate things and to earn a spot at the starting eleven.

Picked players: (18) Carlos Abad, Lucho García (goalkeepers); Jorge Valín, Iván Guerrero, Guille Bueno, Mujaid Sadick, Borja Granero, Juan Rodríguez, Salva Ruiz (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Celso Borges, Nacho González, Álex Barba, Iago Gandoy, Keko Gontán (midfielders); Rui Costa, Manu Mosquera & Adri Castro (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (5-4-1) Carlos Abad – Valín, Mujaid, Juan Rodriguez, Borja Granero, Salva Ruiz – Keko, Borges, Álex Bergantiños, Nacho González – Rui Costa.

ZAMORA: THE PERMANENCE
Zamora CF is an historic club at Segunda B, they spent 15 seasons at the third tier at the start of the century, later they were relegated, and now they are back with the intention of securing the permanence and maybe aspire to be the surprise of the subgroup. Coach Luis Movilla has kept the base of the squad from the promotion and a defined 4-4-2 scheme.

Team news: Coach Luis Movilla is having a full squad available for the game. He will return to the normal 4-4-2 scheme after playing in midweek for Copa del Rey.

Man to watch: Playmaker Carlos Ramos. The ex-Atlético is completing his second season with Zamora CF and he is growing. His function as a playmaker doesn’t fit with the 4-4-2 scheme implemented by Luis Movilla, but he has been reinvented as a striker and is the leader of the team with his passes, and is also one of the top-scorers of the team (2), and in midweek he also scored in Copa facing Villarreal CF.

Picked players: Not released

Predicted lineup: (4-4-2) Villanueva – Parra, Crespo, Iñigo, Coque – Dani Hernández, Juanan, Vallejo, Sergio García – Valentín, Carlos Ramos.
