THINKING OF SD COMPOSTELA

23 Jan 2021
Depor search for their first win in 2021. Rolan is back, but De La Barrera will continue to have a long list of casualties. SD Compostela suffered a traumatic defeat in midweek.

The situation with the pandemic is menacing to postpone or even to cancel the leagues, but for now Deportivo want to focus in returning to winning ways after a disappointing start to 2021. Coach Rubén De La Barrera will search for his first victory as SD Compostela visit the Riazor (Sunday, 17h00 CET).

For now, there are mixed news for Deportivo, it was expected that Diego Rolan and Uche Agbo were going to be available for Sunday. The Uruguayan attacker joined the trainings on Wednesday and should be a starter, but the Nigerian attacker suffered a new muscle problem on Thursday and will remain sidelined.

The rest of injured players will remain out though they are evolving. Miku, Eneko Bóveda, Héctor Hernández, Keko Gontán and Claudio Beauvue started to train with the group on Thursday, but they will receive the medical okay until next week. A seventh casualty for Sunday will be Nacho González, who picked the fifth yellow card of the season in the game at Salamanca UDS.

This means the coach will only have fourteen players available and will surely pick players from Fabril in order to fill the gaps. A new COVID-19 case was detected at Fabril on Thursday, but it isn’t a player that trains with the first squad. On this week Iván Guerrero, Guille Bueno, Álex Boedo, Juan Rodríguez, Javi Sanmartín and Adri Castro have trained with the first team, the latter was even tested as a starter on Thursday and Friday.

At SD Compostela, things were going fine for the team coached by Yago Iglesias. After five straight games without defeats, the team travelled to Salamanca UDS in midweek with the hope of adding a victory that could push them out of the danger zone.

But things went radically different, they found a 3-0 loss that the same coach described as their worst game of the season, they are now in relegation and to make things worse, they lost striker Óscar Manuel Conde ‘Primo’ in the second half due to an injury. He will be the only casualty for the game at the Riazor.
