RAÍ SIGNS FOR DEPORTIVO

28 Jan 2021
Winger Raí Nascimiento signed for Deportivo. The Brazilian left winger is 22 and covers the available U-23 spot at the squad.

The club announced on Wednesday the signing of Raí Nascimento de Oliveira. The Brazilian player can perform as left winger or playmaker and pens a contract for the reminder of the season with the option of an extension.  It’s a zero-cost transfer as the player rescinded with Real Zaragoza at the beginning of the week. He is 22 and cover the available U-23 spot at Depor’s first team.

Rai is a Brazilian attacker that can perform on both wings and in the playmaking function, but in recent years he has been focused in playing on the left wing. He arrived very young to Spain (28) brought by Real Zaragoza. The true is that they never know what to do with him despite showing interesting characteristics with his speed and verticality.

The best he did with Los Maños was to score twice with the B squad in 21 presentations during the Segunda B season 2017/18. The Brazilian player was later loaned to UD Ibiza at Segunda B, he shone there under the command of coach Pablo Alfaro. In two seasons he scored 5 goals in 35 appearances.

Last campaign, UD Ibiza was close to achieve the promotion to Segunda A playing with a 4-4-2 formation and with Rai performing as a left winger. He returned to Real Zaragoza for this season, but after 22 matchdays he has only completed 106 minutes on the pitch distributed in 5 games.

He was presented on Wednesday and he talked about his arrival to Depor, “I would love to thank the warm welcome, also the coaching staff for the confidence they have in me. I came here for the confidence, both the club and the board, later for its history. For an accident it is where it is right now, and we hope to put it where it belongs. I can play in different positions in attack, I can perform on both wings and also in the playmaker’s role even as a striker as I talked to the coach before landing here.”
