ROLAN AND DIEGO COSTA LEAVE DEPOR

02 Feb 2021
New exit of Rolan, while Rui Costa only lasted six months at Deportivo. Both were the exits of Deportivo on deadline day.

The club completed two exits on deadline day, both were strikers: Diego Rolán and Rui Costa. The following is a resume of their cases:

DIEGO ROLAN
Again, the Uruguayan striker lived a weird situation at Deportivo. The club always had the intention to sell him after the relegation to Segunda. There was an initial agreement with Ligue 1 club Nimes Olympique FC during the summer window, the deal was for €2 million and was negotiated for a month until deadline day (October 5), but the Galician club didn’t reach an agreement about the percentage of a future sell, so he stayed at Depor and was inscribed for the local competitions.

The problem is that the paperwork for his work permission lasted a month, he even had to travel to Uruguay, and in the end, the striker only played four games in liga. Even with that low number of games, he left the club been the best scorer at the team (2), his goals meant 4 points for Depor.

His exit also left big question marks about the procedures of the sporting management, because the player was loaned to Pyramids FC in a deal that will leave less money than the €2 million originally negotiated with Nimes.

RUI COSTA
One of the surprises of the summer market, the Portuguese attacker came after a decent Segunda season with AD Alcorcón, but he never convinced at Deportivo. He lasted in gaining form after joining the team late, and when Fernando Vázquez gave him the chance to play, he didn’t convince. The attacker only performed for 196 minutes distributed in 7 games, and only once he was a starter. He was transferred to CD Santa Clara in a zero-cost transfer in which Depor will keep a percentage of a future sell.
