THINKING OF CD GUIJUELO

13 Feb 2021
For the first time in the year, all the players are available for Deportivo. All in a week when the board of directors was sacked.

The crisis of Deportivo is just getting deeper and deeper, on Monday ABANCA got rid of almost the entire board of directors, including president Fernando Vidal, the new board is on process to be completed and the bank is searching for a new director of football as Richard Barral will also leave.

And all of this caused by the crisis of results of a Deportivo that haven’t scored yet in 2021 and that’s already saying good-bye to a promotion in order to be worried about a new possible relegation. A new final is played this Sunday as Deportivo host CD Guijuelo (Riazor, 17h00 CET).

The only good news for coach Rubén de La Barrera is that he has his full squad available for the game. The only player with problems is Lucho García, the keeper suffered a broken nose on last week, he returned to the training pitch on Wednesday wearing a protective mask, but it isn’t clear if he will be allowed to be on the bench for the game.

De La Barrera has been making tests during the week, among the tests are to play with a 4-3-3 figure and with both Rayco Rodríguez and Diego Villares as starters. It’s not clear if Adri Castro will stay at the starting eleven after playing the full 90 minutes in midweek with Fabril. But he trained with the team on Thursday and Friday.

At CD Guijuelo, the club is passing through the most delicate moment of the season.  The delays caused by the pandemic forced them to postpone three games, while the poor results are putting the team at the bottom of the standings, reason why coach Jacobo Montes was fired on last weekend. His substitute is Chuchi Jorqués, who is living his first experience as a professional coach.

CD Guijuelo started to recover the postponed games on this week so Jorqués debuted on Wednesday in a goalless draw visiting Pontevedra CF. Now they are only having four days to prepare the game at the Riazor. The casualties for injury reasons will be midfielder Manu Molina (toe) and attacker Lolo Plá (patellar tendon).
