OMAR BRAVO NEAR TO SIGN FOR DEPORITVO

19 May 2008
It seems a fact that Mexican striker Omar Bravo will join Deportivo during the next days. All the papers in Galicia and Mexico are appointing the deal is almost done and that Bravo will sign a contract for three or four seasons. It was even speculated he will be one of the best-paid players at the club.

All started on Friday, a report in Mexico was saying that president Lendoiro was maintaining intensive negotiations with the agent of Omar Bravo in order to secure his arrival to Deportivo. then on Saturday, the team of the Mexican striker, Chivas de Guadalajara, was eliminated from the playoffs in torneo Clausura 2008. It was reported that Bravo said good bye to his team mates in the dressing room after the match ended.

Defender Jonny Magall??n from Chivas said to newspaper El Informador that "Omar said good bye in a speech he gave in the changing room" and also that "he will miss us, and we will miss him. I grow up with him and I desire the best for him now that he’s going to play in Europe." Then the papers in Mexico started to inform that Deportivo is even offering between €1 and €1.5 million to Bravo for his signing -he ends his contract in June of this year but this kind of payments are common to players that end contract- plus a salary of $2.3 million (€1.48 million) per season. Amounts that will put Bravo between the best-paid players at Deportivo. The same papers also claimed that Omar Bravo will sign a contract for three or four years.

But neither the player nor any Depor's officials wanted to confirm the deal. Lendoiro said he knew nothing about the deal after the game against Villarreal, while the striker said to reporters that he’s waiting to hear the news from his agent. Apparently, Bravo is waiting for the comeback of Chivas's president, Jorge Vergara, in order to thank him and communicate his decision face to face. Vergara is a Mexican entrepreneur that was linked in the past with a possible move in order to buy Deportivo, he just got married during the past week in a ceremony that took place in India and he will return to Guadalajara in a few days. Therefore the Mexican media appoints the transfer will be announced until the end of the present week.

The curious story of this operation is that coach Lotina seems unaware of Lendoiro's move, he said on Monday at Radio Galega that "I don’t know anything about the move. Omar Bravo is a great player, but he's more a second striker and we have other necessities, we will probably try sign a new striker no matter he signs for us."

Omar Bravo is a 28-year-old striker that debuted with Chivas on the year 2001, on the last Saturday, he scored his goal No. 101 with the squad from Guadalajara, number that put him as the second best scorer in the history of the club, one of the two giants in Mexico.  Bravo has also played 26 games with the national team of Mexico, including three in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He has scored eleven times with Mexico's national team.
