DEPORTIVO IN VENEZUELA

28 Jul 2008
Depor’s squad travelled on Monday’s morning to Venezuela. It’s the third time in the history that Deportivo plays a series of friendly games in the South American country. The first match of this tour will take place on Thursday at Puerto Ordaz. In the list of 26 players called for the tour, the surprise is Rodolfo Bodipo, striker that was already discarded by Lotina.

On Monday’s morning Deportivo’s squad took a plane at Vigo’s airport in order to travel to Venezuela. Lotina and his players are making a ten-days tour through the South American country. This tour consists in three friendly matches that will mean an income of at least €2 million for Deportivo. The first of these three games will be played on Thursday against Minerven FC at Cachamay stadium –stadium in the picture- in Puerto Ordaz (02h00 CET).

It’s not the first time that Deportivo travels to Venezuela in order to play a series of friendly matches. The Galician squad already made a tour in the years 1969 and 1976. In the first occasion, Depor drew with Sporting Lisbon with a scoreless score and later it lost against Sparta Prague (1-2). For the year 1976, Depor defeated Millonarios (Colombia) with a 3-2 score and later it lost against Deportivo Portugu?s from Venezuela (0-2).

In the beginning, it was said that Lotina and his coaching staff would travel with 25 players, but in the end the final list was conformed by 26 men: Fabricio, Aranzub?a, Manu (goalkeepers); Manuel Pablo, Adri??n L??pez ?Piscu’, Filipe, Lopo, Ze Castro, Rochela, Laure, Juanan (defenders); De Guzman, Sergio, Verd??, Antonio Tom??s, Guardado, Cristian, Valer??n, Juan Rodr?guez, Lafita, Pablo ?lvarez (midfielders); Riki, Bodipo, Xisco, Mista and Omar Bravo (strikers).

The ?additional man’ on the list is goalkeeper Manu, he was one of the goalies at Fabril during the past season and Lotina decided to take him because he thinks the squad would need a third keeper in Venezuela. However the biggest surprise in the list is Rodolfo Bodipo, the Guinean striker was already discarded by Lotina for the new season, but he took the place of Coloccini since the Argentinean is staying in La Coru?a waiting for news. Other surprise is the absence of Pablo Amo, apparently for his Achilles injury, although the cause could also be his possible exit to Zaragoza. That’s why youngsters Rochela and Juanan were included in the group.
