One of the main worries for coach Miguel ?ngel Lotina s the current state of Julian de Guzman. The Canadian midfielder is feeling the consequences of the great effort made on the past season and is currently struggling to find the same pace of his team mates. He has just surpassed a tendonitis and faces a tough calendar during the next months.

Julian De Guzm??n was an important player on the past season, he was a fixed option in midfield for Lotina and now the effort made on the last liga campaign is carrying its consequences. The Canadian arrived to Abegondo on July 20th with a Tendonitis (Achilles injury) and was unable to train with the rest of his team mates; it was until the tour in Venezuela when he was able to train at the same pace than his partners.

That’s why he missed the second-leg match in Intertoto. Apparently De Guzm??n is already fit to play and could appear as a starter against Hajduk Split, but doctor Ram??n Barral has his worries about his condition, as he told to newspaper La Voz de Galicia ?Yes, he arrived with a tendonitis, which in theory is already healed, because he’s working without problems. But it’s also true he’s wiped out from all the fatigue faced in the international games, because he has to make long trips and that creates uncertainty, but let’s hope there won’t be a problem.?

Barral also expressed his concerns because De Guzman will have to face a tough calendar with Canada’s national team ?The risk of new setback is higher with those long trips, because he needs to rest and now this is almost impossible, also because this type of injuries are caused for been tired and even because the pitches of CONCACAF in Central America are in bad conditions.?

In the meantime, De Guzman has been called to play with Canada the first match in the group stage qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2010. Canada faces Jamaica on August 20. Meaning the midfielder will miss the Teresa Herrera tournament. He will travel after the UEFA cup match against Hajduk Split, something that could complicate his physical improvement. For the moment Lotina can only cross his fingers ?I think he will go trough this, but we will see it calmly.? the coach said after Monday’s training.
