Squad news

Deportivo will try to transmit the euphoria of the UEFA cup to la liga during the home game against Numancia. The Galicians don’t lose at the Riazor since the last match of the past season and Lotina hopes for a win that will lift the aspirations of the squad in the local competition. Numancia arrives after ending the last two games scoreless but hoping for a surprise.

Numancia has visited the Riazor in three opportunities playing for Primera Divisi??n, and the results were totally different in the three occasions. First Numancia surprised with a 2-0 win over Irureta’s squad during the season 1999/2000, same one in which Depor conquered the liga title. But one season later Numancia was smashed by Depor with a 4-1 result, match in which both Pandiani and Trist??n scored two goals. The last visit of Numancia to La Coru?a occurred for the season 2004/2005 and it ended with a 1-1 draw.

The start of season has been irregular for Deportivo, the Galician team is in mid-table in la liga and was close to be eliminated from the UEFA Cup by SK Brann Bergen. But the true is that Depor has recovered its identity at the Riazor, stadium in which Lotina’s side hasn’t been defeated since the closing game of the past campaign (0-2 Vs Villarreal). Since that day, the squad has clinched four wins and two draws between liga, Intertoto and UEFA cup. Actually Depor has kept a clean sheet in five of those six matches, the only team that was able to beat Depor’s goal was Real Madrid during the opening game of the liga season (2-1).

Lotina’s Deportivo returns into action three days after the glorious but exhausting victory over Brann Bergen, the idea of the Basque trainer was to continue with the rotations, but some specific injury cases and the necessity of a victory are changing his plans. The main novelty for the game is that Manuel Pablo is set to return after missing the first five matchdays in liga and the two games in UEFA. The Canarian has just surpassed a toe cyst and despite he’s not at 100%, he will probably go directly into the starting eleven as Lotina hasn’t called Laure for the game.

The same Manuel Pablo was appointing that he’s not at the top for the moment, but that he’s willing to play ?Maybe I am not at one hundred percent, but I’m sure my hopes will replace my physical state.? In the centre of the defence Lotina was planning the return of Z? Castro after he was rested for the game with Brann, but the Portuguese is not ready to play due a gastroenteritis, reason why Lotina will keep playing with the couple Albert Lopo-Diego Colotto. Brazilian Filipe Luis ended the game with the Norwegians suffering muscular problems, but Lotina will keep him covering the left-back position.

Other of the changes that Lotina was expecting to realise was the return of Julian De Guzm??n to midfield after missing mid-week game due to an abductor injury, but the Canadian hasn’t surpassed the problem and was left out of the list for the match. That’s why Lotina will have to put Juan Rodr?guez in contention, the Andalusian is other player rested during the week since he was accumulating a long list of matches. His partner in the zone is Sergio, the Catalan should be fresh tough he played the 120 minutes with Brann, this because he didn’t play the past weekend’s game with Valencia FC.

The biggest doubt for Lotina is if Juan Carlos Valer??n should start in the playmaking function, the Canarian made a decent game on Thursday, but it seems that Lotina will prefer to play with Joan Verd??, the Catalan hasn’t appeared too often lately and is a fresh option for the position. Andr?s Guardado didn’t play the complete game with Brann and should be the main alternative for the left wing. It was expected that Pablo Alvarez would cover the right, this because he was rested in mid-week, but it seems that Angel Lafita, despite he ended exhausted on Thursday, will be the selected choice for the job.

Finally, in attack Lotina will give a new chance to Omar Bravo, the Mexican hasn’t scored yet in an official game, but his good performance against Mallorca and Brann is responding to the confidence of the Basque coach. Mista and Riki will be the other choices on the bench.

Z? Castro enters into the list of injuries, but Manuel Pablo goes out of it, that’s why the injury room stills habited by four players (Z? Castro, Barrag??n, De Guzm??n and Pablo Amo). About the discarded men for technical reasons, Cristian and Bodipo are joining Laure in this list, while Aouate and Mun??a continue sidelined.

List of called players (18): Aranzubia, Fabricio (goalkeepers); Manuel Pablo, Adri??n L??pez ?Piscu’, Lopo, Colotto, Filipe (defenders); Sergio, Antonio Tom??s, Juan Rodr?guez, Verd??, Guardado, Pablo ?lvarez, Valer??n, Lafita (midfielders); Mista, Riki and Omar Bravo (strikers).

The team from Soria started well the season with a victory over giant Barcelona FC, but after this achievement the squad has only added one draw while it has suffered three defeats. Like the case with Depor, the main problem at the squad are the goals, so far Kresic’s team has only scored five times, three of those five goals came in the visit to Real Madrid while they have remained scoreless in the last two opportunities (0-2 at Mallorca and 0-0 Vs Osasuna).

Numancia is the most humble team at Primera Divisi??n with a budget that barely reaches the €4 million. In the other hand Depor has a budget of €65 million, this means sixteen times the one of Numancia. That’s why nobody expects big things from this team, actually they keep the same skeleton that achieved the promotion from Segunda Divisi??n, players that in a major part are just having their first experience in the elite. However they have a big spirit, something  they demonstrate from time to time, just like when they surprised Barca in the opening game of this liga season. Another curiosity about Numancia is that together with Athletic Bilbao, this is the only team in Primera that only has Spaniards in its squad.

For this match coach Kresic has the casualty of ex-Celta Antonio Guayre who still out with a knee problem while midfielder Juan Carlos Moreno is suspended after been sent off in the stoppage time of the game against Osasuna. Kresic is trying to inject optimism to the squad and that’s why he decided to give more days for the rest to his players, Numancia started to train until Wednesday after Sunday’s goalless draw with Osasuna.

The place of Moreno will be probably taken by ex-Athletic Bilbao midfielder Felipe Gur?ndez, tough he has only played seven minutes on this liga season. The rest of the team will probably be the same that drew with Osasuna during the last weekend. Other alternative tested by the Croatian coach in order to cover the absence of Moreno was to move Mario from the right wing to the centre of the pitch and to allow the appearance of Javier Del Pino on the right side.

Felipe Gur?ndez talked previously to the game and appointed that he doesn’t think that Depor would be affected for the game played with Brann three days ago ?They can rotate and the ones playing in copa and liga could be all different, they won’t notice it because they have a very depth squad. Off course we want to be strong at home, but outside we can also achieve positive results and we have to try, to fight for those points because we will appreciate them at the end of the season.?

As it was appointed earlier, the squad of Numancia is full of ?rookies? in Primera Divisi??n. Of the expected lineup at the Riazor, only five players have a decent experience in this division: central defenders C?sar Palacios (116 games in Primera), Sergio Boris (105), midfielders Txomin Nagore (140), Felipe (139) and left winger Jos? Javier Barkero (67).

The rest barely played a few games at Primera. Like the case of goalkeeper Juan Pablo who just performed five times for Alav?s, left-back Domingo Cisma who played five games with Almeria on the past season, Mario who appeared four times in the previous adventure of Numancia in Primera (2004/2005) and striker Gorka Brit who played 17 liga encounters with Osasuna within the last six years. Finally right-back Juanra and winger/midfielder Carlos Bellvis are just making their debut in Primera for the present campaign. Same case that Del Pino, the other alternative tested in order to cover the absence of Moreno.

Goalkeeper Juan Pablo appointed what’s the key to conquer a positive result at the Riazor ?They live the similar situation than the rest, despite the block, they have good players and are strong at home. They are fast and know how to move the ball. The key for us is to be fine in defence and to be calmed each time we would have the ball. I don’t know if Depor will be affected by the UEFA, I have been playing the UEFA with Alav?s and it was a very important thing, but you change the mentality really fast in order to be alert in la liga. Let’s hope Deportivo will be tired, but it will continue to be a complicate game, especially since we play in its stadium.?

One of the hopes for the season is Asier Goiria, a 28-year-old striker that was actually the only reinforcement for whom Numancia paid an amount of money (€300,000). He’s also debuting at Primera after been the top-scorer of Eibar in Segunda Divisi??n with 14 goals. The Basque attacker said previously to the game that he’s hoping to get a chance tough he thinks his team mates in the starting squad are making a good job so far ?We all will like to have minutes, but we know the whole squad is making a pretty job so far. Besides Gorka (Brit) is doing a nice work and let’s hope he will continue like that.?  So far Goiria has only played 124 minutes on the season.

List of called players (19): Juan Pablo, Diego (goalkeepers); Juanra, Pav??n, Boris, Palacios, Cisma (defenders); Felipe, Bellvis, Nagore, Mario, Dimas, Quero, Alvaro Ant??n, Barkero, (midfielders); Goiria , Del Pino and Brit (strikers).

Deportivo: Aranzubia – Manuel Pablo, Lopo, Colotto, Filipe – Juan Rodr?guez, Sergio – Lafita, Verd?? or Valer??n, Guardado – Omar Bravo.
