The great moment of Daniel Aranzubia is corresponding to a solid moment of Deportivo. The Basque keeper, replaced on the past season at Athletic by a Segunda keeper, is now a candidate to Spain’s senior squad. Now two recognized ex-Depor keepers analyse the work done by Aranzubia on the season and his surprising comeback.

One of the great news on the season for Deportivo is the solid performance of Daniel Aranzubia, goalkeeper that has been one of the keys to explain why the team has achieved 15 clean sheets after 25 official games on the current season, he’s also one of the reasons why Depor is having the second best defensive record at Primera Divisi??n with 14 goals allowed after 14 matchdays. Now the Basque occupies the second spot in the list for the Zamora trophy.

And nobody thought this was possible back in June, especially after Aranzubia went out of Athletic Bilbao by the back door after Caparr??s replaced him with a keeper coming from Segunda (Armando). Now his name has been linked with national coach Vicente Del Bosque and a possible call to Spain’s senior team. In an interview with La Voz de Galicia, Dani said that he doesn’t feel any difference with what happened on the past season I have the same confidence compared to the past season, I always had it and the work done is the same. What have changed are the results, because on the three last seasons I was fighting for avoiding the relegation. Now we are up, and when things are fine for the team, we all are benefited.

In the recent history, Depor has had two Zamoras at its squad: Paco Lia?±o and Jacques Songo’o, they talked during the week with La Voz de Galicia and analysed the job done by Aranzubia. Also did it Pablo Coira, a Galician left back that’s currently at Espanyol B and that was his team mate at Spain’s U-21 squad during the championship of 1999. Other person that talked is Jon Aguiriano, a Basque reporter that covers Athletic Bilbao for newspaper El Correo. The following is the translation of their opinions.

I was surprised, I had my doubts, especially after Athletic signed on the past season a keeper of Segunda in order to replace him. The key should be the confidence of the coach, Lotina, who believed in him since the beginning. Also his good appearances at the beginning of the season, something that should have gave him confidence in himself. Dani is demonstrating regularly and personality, something that gives secureness to the defensive sector. He is not only doing his job, but also gaining points, like it happened on the past Sunday.

It’s about time for seeing somebody taking my place and win a new Zamora trophy, but there’s a lot of liga ahead. He has made a solid performance so far and let’s hope he will continue with this. I don’t know what his stronger point is, maybe his virtue is to be so complete.

At the time of the World Cup in 1999, Dani was more successful than Casillas. With the experience gave by the years he has improved and now he is a keeper with enough guaranties. He also possess the quality to precise passes through long balls, good reflexes and a good presence at the goal. The bad performance at Athletic can be explained by the complex situation of that club. The change has been wonderful for him. I believe that Dani and Iker are currently the two best Spanish keepers.â€?

â€?At Bilbao people knows that Dani has enough quality, but we also know that the pressure at San Mam?©s was stronger than him, beyond to his performance. Maybe the thing that surprises me is the fact that he is now stopping penalties. Here he was not even stopping one.â€?
