REACTIONS TO THE FIRST WIN IN LIGA

15 Sep 2009
Lotina and the players were content with the performance of the team and also with the great goal of Filipe, while the Brazilian explained that he was testing the long-distance shots during the week.

Coach Miguel Ángel Lotina was content with the performance of his team after the first win of the season, “We had more good that bad things, little by little the players are getting the pace. The temperature was high and the rival also suffered for this, but we too because the squad was running a lot. The heat was suffocating, however the defense was fine and both midfielders are each time better, and you can notice it. We were focused in our strategy, with the exception of the final part of the game. Little by little the team is getting use to play by the inside and at the outside, with short and long balls. Now we start to be ourselves, we want to be a good team, not a pretty one.”

However, the Basque manager was also feeling sorry because his team was too much doubtful within the final minutes, “When we suffered the most was after the 1-0. We missed intelligence and cunning, because we gave them the options that they never had. We failed to stop the game, to have the ball possession and to be more ordered in order to block those chances. We lost the ball in the attempt to score the second goal. It’s true that we suffered, but nobody said this was going to be easy. We have to suffer, but together, the fans and the team. We want to be a solid team, but based in our implication in the job. That’s the secret of this Depor and nothing else.”

A curious thing is that Lotina confessed that he was screaming to Filipe to send a cross instead of a shot on target during the goal, “Thank God Filipe didn’t listen to me, because I was ordering to send the cross. It was a great goal.” Finally, he praised the job done by Juca, “He is a powerful player and little by little he is feeling adapted to what we want. He plays better being in the opposite field, he was very active during twenty minutes and was linked to Valerón, and those were our beast moments.”

Juan Carlos Valerón was very happy with the final result, “We must be satisfied with the victory, because Malaga is a good team in defence, they knew how to close the spaces and at the end we were only able to score after a long-distance shot from Filipe.”

Andrés Guardado was one of the most active players in the game, the Mexican was saying that Depor deserved the win in this game, “The squad was fine despite they didn’t allow us to play. We always had more ideas up front, therefore we can only think of the next game and try to keep improving in order to feel looser with the ball. I know it was hard for us, but the victories are better in this way. We were at home and it was necessary to have a good start.”

Juan Rodríguez, who again appeared as one of the pivotes, was emphasising the fact that it was a close game for the two teams, “Malaga was defending very well and we weren’t fresher enough to search for the empty spaces.” He said.

The hero of the game was Filipe Luis, his great goal gave the three points to Depor after he was doubtful before the game due to an knee problem, the Brazilian was assuring that he trained the long-range shots during the week, “We are just starting the season and there’s a lot to play, but I am really happy. On this week I trained the long-distance shots with Brazil’s national team and I was just feeling confident when the chance arrived.”

He also thanked the people that supported him within the last months after his failed transfer to Barcelona, “I dedicate the goal to my girlfriend and my family, because they were at my side during the tough moments that I lived on this summer. I never did anything against the club or the public; I don’t have a fight against them. I always gave everything to them. Also the coach, he’s always right and I have grown a lot with him.”

The fans witnessed the return of Adrian after spending one and a half year loaned at other clubs; he was expressing his happiness with his performance, “The great goal of Filipe broke the game. I am content for the victory and for my return to the Riazor; I was feeling pretty comfortable during the minutes I played. I didn’t feel any problem in my leg and that’s the important thing. I did everything I could in order to play well and help the team.”

President Augusto César Lendoiro was sending a ‘coded message’ to Barcelona about the real market value of Filipe Luis,  “He is starting his career and still has to succeed at Deportivo to see him later confirming himself at any team appreciating his skills as a player.”

At Malaga, coach Juan Ramón López Muñiz was feeling sorry for the defeat, “It was an equal game, any side could have won. It was clear that both sides would play wide open during the second part. The win was only possible with a genius move of player, a goal that would be one of the best on this season. We just feel sorry Filipe didn’t join Barcelona. I leave with the feeling that my team did everything it could in order to win. It was the typical game that ends 0-0. My team did everything possible to contain a solid team, a rapid side that did everything to pick up the win. We could have won or a achieve a draw.”
