The shocking defeat against Espanyol raised the self-criticism at Deportivo, for Lotina the key was to not put the needed pressure over the key players of the rival, while Verdú was defending his celebration in the third goal of the Catalans.

Miguel Ángel Lotina was mentioning the inexistent pressure put by his team on the pitch as the cause for the defeat, “"They (Espanyol) played well. Our pressure wasn’t strong enough, and if you don’t tight the things at Primera División anybody can defeat you and that’s what happened today. In the first half we were wrong, not only on the pressure, because we were too much misaligned. They were playing very comfortable, easily reaching our area. The game was being bad and coincided with a couple of mistakes that meant their goals. Espanyol defeated us and that’s all, we must congratulate them.”

"After the changes, the team squeezed, it played with a different dynamic and it did what it did, but it was until the end. The people up front weren’t the best ones to put the pressure and they took advantage of that situation, because they were patient and never raffled the ball. Verdú and Nico Pareja were playing very comfortable, no one pressed them, we knew these things, but we didn’t fulfill the mission" Depor’s coach added.

Finally, the Basque manager was trying to emphasise the good things left by the defeat, "There were mistakes. The first goal and third are preventable. You can not commit such general mistakes. We must put more attention and that has to be resolved. There were some good things too, not because we lost all the conclusions must be bad. Lassad received more balls and find support. With him on the field we had more approaches to the area. I've never denied that my idea is to play with Lassad and Adrian. But the injuries will mark the way. Adrian was better, fresher, and that brings us more things, but still isn’t at one hundred percent. The solutions might be there."

Meanwhile, striker Adrián was praising Valerón in the play that meant the first goal for his team, “It was his merit, he gave me a good assistance and I just had to elude the keeper and push the ball in.” About the game, the Asturian said that, “We all had problems, not only at defence. We improved a little bit during the second half, we had our occasions and we could have achieved the draw.”

Lassad Nouioui was worried for the performance of the Galician team within the last matches, “We won on the past Sunday, but we repeated some errors and we must improve that on Wednesday and also against Villarreal, because we must demonstrate to the fans that we know how to play and also to win the games.”

Right-back Laure was also feeling sorry for the defeat, “We weren’t involved since the beginning as it occurred in past opportunities, and we must improve some things. We had good and bad moments, and you paid the price for the bad ones at Primera.”

Juan Carlos Valerón was asking for patience after suffering two defeats in the first three games of la liga, “We tried but it wasn’t possible. The true is that they were better than us. Espanyol made a pretty game. We must keep going, knowing that we must surpass the defeats; this is just starting, we know we will have good and bad matches. Xérez represents a game that needs to be played, we are going there trying to carry out with this thing.”

The Canarian also wanted to rest importance to the celebration of Joan Verdú after the third goal, which caused the protest of the public, “For me is normal to celebrate a goal. We all know that Verdú, when he was at Depor, gave everything, and I’m sure that he still loves Deportivo, no matter he scored in this game.”

Precisely, Joan Verdú showed his surprise for the whistles that he was hearing at the Riazor, “The whistles? Anyone is free to do what they want and I have my conscience in peace. I am sincere, I didn’t expect for this. I neither confronted anyone nor spoke bad things of the club. I am just trying to give everything on here and at least I conquered the three points, this is just a bad story for me. I dedicated the goal to my son and my family. The celebration was the same, never was something weird.”

Meanwhile, president Augusto César Lendoiro was disappointed for the poor attendance to the Riazor (14,000 spectators), he was trying to explain the issue, “It’s a pity for the people that work, but never an excuse, the fans that were here deserve ten points, as always.”

Finally Espanyol,’s coach, Mauricio Pochettino, was very happy with the result, “It is very important to encourage our people, although it means nothing in the standings. It is a vital boost after everything we lived in the pre-season. I'm proud of the whole team. We were very superior to Deportivo during fifty-five minutes.”
