New complicate game for Deportivo B; Ramallo’s coach was surprised by the offensive strategy of the rival and suffered to clinch a narrow win, but the result is allowing Fabril to reach the first place in the group.

Coach Tito Ramallo was having three important casualties for the game: Diego Vieytes, who broke his nose during a training session before the game; Dani, who was suspended after picking his fifth yellow card of the season in the past game at Cerceda; and David Añon, who was resting due to the H1N1 flu.

Therefore, the coach made three modifications to the starting formation. The spot of Vieytes at the centre of the defence was taken by Castillo, who was making his first appearance as starter after his shoulder operation, while Juan Dominguez returned in order to take the spot of captain Dani, the midfielder was available to play after surpassing a toe injury and after he didn’t play any minute with the first squad against Atletico Madrid. Finally, Diego Vela returned to the starting squad to cover the right wing, movement that sent Luis Ángel to the left, the Canarian was the one claiming the spot of Añon.

The rest was the usual squad, with Diego Rivas at the goal; Diego Seoane at the right-back position, Raul Garcia at the left side, David Rochela joining Castillo at the centre of the defence; Héctor playing alongside Juan Dominguez at midfield, Juan Carlos in the playmaking function and Hugo Garcia in attack.

Bergantiños, the rival for the occasion, was arriving to Abegondo with three familiar faces that played for Fabril in the past: keeper David Yañez, right-back defender Borja Facal and striker José Luis Deus, this last one even played 12 Primera matches with Depor’s first squad between the years 1996 and 1998. The first two were starters in the game, while Deus entered for the second part.

Fabril is used to have the ball possession and the best scoring opportunities when it plays at Abegondo, but this game was the exception to this rule, because beyond being defensive, the visitors planned an offensive strategy that gave a lot of problems to Tito Ramallo and his boys.

As proof of this the fact that Bergantiños hit the post twice between the first fifteen minutes, the first occasion came after a 30-meters shot from Borja Facal (2’). The other attempt was a shot from the edge of the area made by Jorge Lara ‘Jordi’ and that striker José Manuel Mato ‘Josiño’ headed in the way to the goal before hitting the post (15’). José Fuentes ‘Josito’ and Javi Angeriz also had an opportunity to take the lead, but were neutralized by Diego Rivas and by Rochela.

Then, Depor B started to gain the control over the match, Juan Carlos had the first attempt to score (21’), and twelve minutes later Diego Vela scored the winning goal for Fabril.  The play was started by Luis Ángel on the left wing, the Canarian assisted left-back Héctor, who sent a cross to the near post and into the path of Hugo Garcia, then the striker headed the ball and assisted Vela who pushed the ball in from the far post. It is the third goal in liga for the young winger, who is turning 18 on this day.

The true is that it was an underserved reward, because until this point the visitors were the ones that had the better scoring opportunities. Luis Angel was very alone on the left, while Juan Carlos was missing too many passes; only the presence of Juan Dominguez at midfield was bringing some light to the game of the locals.

Bergantiños had the initiative during the second half, but without having any clear opportunity against Diego Rivas, while Fabril was locked at its own area waiting to release a counterattack. This time the best opportunities were for the locals, first Castillo headed out a corner-kick (58’), and ten minutes later Luis Angel missed the target from long distance.

Then, Ramallo sent Chirri and Momar to replace Vela and Juan Carlos. Both modifications gave freshness to the squad, and this duo created the main opportunity for the locals, this after Momar assisted Chirri with a header, but the winger sent directly the ball into the hands of David Yáñez. Other opportunities for Fabril were a short-range effort of Juan Dominguez, a header of Seoane and a crossed shot of Chirri that missed the target. For the final seven minutes, striker Joshua Corrales entered to take the place of Hugo García, but the Canarian didn’t have any opportunity.

Tough game for Deportivo B, Ramallo’s squad had big difficulties to surpass a rival that surprised with an offensive approach at Abegondo. At least the defensive line was strong enough and was able to clinch the fifth clean sheet of the season, the third within the last four matches. This victory, combined with the defeat of Cerceda, is allowing the return of Deportivo to the leadership of the Galician group at Tercera. On Sunday Depor B visits the Manuel Anxo Cortizo stadium (Pontevedra) in order to face 12th place CD Lalín (16h30 CET)

Comments of Tito Ramallo, “We have sawn a very solid Bergantiños, which surprised us within the first twenty minutes, moments when we were failing with the passing and putting pressure. As soon as we corrected that problem the squad improved, and after the goal the match was already closed since we didn’t give any option to them. The things were equal and I’m content with the defensive work, because we were more delayed on the pitch.”
