The last liga defeat against Real Sociedad is raising the alarm bells at Deportivo, it was the sixth consecutive game without a home victory, a record unseen since the season 1969/70. Now, everyone is waiting to end this negative situation, especially taking into account that the squad needs a victory in order to advance in the Copa del Rey.

In the 1969/70 campaign, Depor suffered seven straight home games without achieving a victory, a situation that happened between matchday 14 and 28: Mallorca (1-1), Barcelona (0-0), Real Madrid (1-1), Athletic Bilbao (1-1), Sabadell (1-1), Atl?Štico Madrid (0-1) and Celta (0-1). This curse meant that Deportivo were not able to escape from the relegation zone, which resulted in the loss of the category at the end of the season.

Twenty six years later the situation is happening again, the defeat against Real Sociedad has woken up the ghosts in the Riazor as the team accumulates a mark of six consecutive home games without achieving the three points, a scenario that started last December: RCD Espanyol (1-2), Alav?Šs (0-2), Mallorca (2-2), Valencia (0-1), Zaragoza (1-1) and Real Sociedad (0-1).

Curiously this curse started against Espanyol, precisely the last obstacle in order to reach the final in Copa del Rey. Another bizarre statistic is that the curse seems only to affect the performance in la liga, the squad won the two Copa matches played at the Riazor in January: Osasuna (3-0) and Valencia (1-0). In fact, the Galicians have not lost a home game in the Copa since the year 2003 when Mallorca won the first-leg of the semi-finals (2-3).

For the moment this lack of effectiveness at home is throwing away the hopes of achieving a qualification for the next European season, but a victory in tomorrow's game could also open the door to the next UEFA cup. Maybe it is time to remember that this is a Copa match and not a liga game.
