Deportivo will end the liga season 2009/10 in a tasteless match against Athletic Bilbao, a rival that’s also playing for nothing. Several novelties are expected, including the presence of Manu and Filipe as starters.

La Liga still alive as the title, the last ticket to the Champions League, one of the Europa League places and the three relegation spots are still undecided, actually in nine of the ten games that correspond to the last matchday there’s something at stake, but the fact is that the only game in which nothing important is over th table is the match between Deportivo La Coruña and Athletic Bilbao (Saturday, 18h00 CET).

The Basques will end eight in the table no matter what happens at San Mamés, this since they are four points under seventh place Villarreal and four points above ninth place Atletico Madrid. Meanwhile, Depor can only aspire to pass the Madrilenians in order to end ninth, something that isn’t important at all.

For that reason it’s expected that both teams will present several novelties in order to study some players ahead of next season. At Depor coach Miguel Angel Lotina already said that Filipe Luis will be a starter after reappearing in the past game with RCD Mallorca. The Brazilian got injured in the first round game and is already recovered. Other of the novelties is Manu, who could be the starting goalkeeper at San Mamés, something that was confirmed by Aranzubia during a press conference.

However, those could be the only two novelties, because it isn’t expected that Lotina will use any youth player in the game as both Fabril and Juvenil A are playing important things during the weekend. And it’s that Deportivo B will play the first-leg of the promotion playoffs to Segunda B on Saturday (the game starts immediately after the final whistle at San Mamés), while one day later Juvenil A plays the first-leg in Copa Del Rey for Juveniles against Real Sociedad Juvenil A.

On Wednesday paper El Mundo Deportivo presented an interview with Lotina and he analysed the subject, “We’re traveling with what we have. I was thinking in using B players, because it’s important for their growth, but the B team is playing the playoffs. So I still don’t know who is going. Juvenil A is also playing the Copa, so I can put my hands on its players Right now I don’t know if I have 14 or 15 players available for the game. We don’t have more. If we don’t have enough to fill a list with 16 players, then I will have to choose some players from Juvenil or Fabril that aren’t part of the plans at their teams, but it will be to fill the gaps.”

The true is that Lotina currently has eighteen healthy players at the first team: Aranzubia, Manu, Manuel Pablo, Laure, Lopo, Ze Castro, Filipe, Colotto, Sergio, Antonio Tomas, Juan Rodriguez, Valerón, Juca, Iván Pérez, Mista, Bodipo, Lassad and Adrian.

Antonio Tomas is already working at the top after surpassing an ankle sprain, while Filipe, Adrian and Lassad are all fit to play. Piscu (shoulder) and Guardado (in Mexico) are the only two confirmed discards for the game, but Lotina also has the doubts of Juan Dominguez, Pablo Alvarez (both ankle) and Riki (thigh).

These three players have been training apart and it isn’t known yet if they will be available for Saturday’s game. The most important casualty would be Riki, the Madrilenian is the current Pichichi at the team with eight goals scored, mark that’s also the best in his career, and the striker was hoping to break it with a goal at San Mamés. The doctors also have to decide if Brayan Angulo should be picked for the game, Lotina said that his hear was telling to do it, but that the final decision is on the hands of Depor’s doctors. The Colombian has just surpassed a knee ligaments injury.

Meanwhile, Pablo Alvarez was talking to Riazor.org and said that he still trying to recover from his ankle sprain, “The ankle sprain that I sustained in the game against Sporting cut my pace and later a muscular injury has left me out for a few games. I still trying to be able to train with the team, let’s hope I will be fine as soon as possible and let’s see if I can end la liga playing.”
At Athletic, coach Joaquin Caparrós is already losing Fernando Amorebieta for suspension, while he is also planning changes in the starting squad as a Zubiaurre and Aitor Ocio will join San José and Koikili in the defensive line. It’s also expected that keeper Armando Ribeiro and winger Joseba Etxeberria are going to play, both are retiring and it’s expected an ovation for them. This means that Filipe won’t be able to face Iraizoz as the Brazilian was expecting. The Basque keeper has been very friendly with the Brazilian after the injury, and Depor’s defender was hoping ”to pay“ him with a goal.
