After two years at Deportivo B, striker Hugo Garcia is leaving the club as both sides agreed to cancel the contract of the Ourense-born striker. He was considered one of the three pearls at the club, but the priorities have changed.

On Monday it was confirmed that striker Hugo Garcia Lagoas has cancelled his contract with Deportivo La Coruña. The Ourense-born attacker explained to newspaper La Voz de Galicia the reasons that moved him to take this decision, “They have signed two new strikers within the last days and wanted to talk to him (Tito Ramallo). He told me that I was going to be the last one in his preferences, and off course, if I was going to spend one year without playing the best thing was to leave.”

Hugo arrived to the club in 2005 after playing at the youth teams of Real Madrid and Real Valladolid; he impressed at Juvenil A & B as the striker scored forty-four goals in two years. Then, in 2008, he signed a contract with the club lasting until the year 2011. It was a special thing, because until that point only two other youngsters had a similar deal: Juan Dominguez and David Rochela, duo that already debuted at the first team and that’s appointed to be part of Depor’s future.

Then, Garcia was promoted to Deportivo B and had two low seasons, first only scoring three goals in twenty-four goals at Segunda B (2008/09), and then scoring nine times in twenty-eight games at Tercera (2009/10). In this last phase the striker spent four straight months without scoring though he improved in the end, even scoring the decisive goal in the penalty shootout that meant the promotion to Segunda B.

Now, with the team returning to Segunda B, coach Tito Ramallo has decided to sign two new strikers, Jona and Dioni, and Garcia became into the third choice in the list of preferences, reason that moved to a conversation between the coach and the striker, and from that meeting both sides decided that the best was to cancel the contract of the striker.

”I was really hopeful when I arrived and don’t think the final balance is negative. I didn’t have an excellent season, but I neither thought I was going to leave.  The world isn’t over for leaving Deportivo and now I have to search for another club.” He told to La Voz.
