The club has confirmed that this year Teresa Herrera will be played in a solo-game between Deportivo and Newcastle United. Itís the second time in nineteen years in which the tournament is only disputed by two clubs.

On Monday the club finally confirmed that the Teresa Herrera 2010 will be disputed in a solo-game on Tuesday August 3rd 2010 (21h00 CET). The final match will be between Deportivo and Newcastle United; the British side is disputing the tournament as part of 2008īs transfer of Fabricio Coloccini, which left Ä11.5 million at the Riazor.

It means a solid sparring for Depor ahead of la liga debut and also means a good test for ďThe MagpiesĒ, because eleven days later they will be facing Manchester United as part of the opening matchday at the Barclays Premier League. Also, it wonít be the first Teresa Herrera for Newcastle, because in 1960 they played the final against Sevilla FC and lost 1-2.

It isnít new the fact that the Teresa Herrera is disputed only by two clubs; actually the tournament was born as a Cup only disputed by two teams. Itís just that president Lendoiro converted the event into a quadrangular within the last two decades, and this is just the second time in nineteen years in which only two clubs take part of the tournament.

The previous occasion was on the past year as Depor lost against Atletico Madrid in the final (1-1, penalty shootout), which by the way was the first time in nine years in which the Galicians didnít win the trophy.
