The arrival of Felipe Ramos is adding more competence to the goalkeeping position; currently the club has five keepers for the first and the second team. Meanwhile, all appoints that Aranzubia will be fit for the debut in la liga.

On Thursday Deportivo confirmed the signing of Felipe Ramos, a 22-year-old goalkeeper that’s coming for free from Real Madrid after clinching the UEFA U-17 championship in 2007. He’s considered as a young promise and Lendoiro didn’t resist the temptation to sign him.

The club has high hopes on him, so much that he signed a five-year contract. On Saturday he was already training with the first team. It was announced that the Madrilenian will alternate between the first and the second team. Precisely, his arrival is creating an interesting situation at Depor and Fabril. Because now the club has five keepers for its main two teams.

It’s clear that Daniel Aranzubia will be the starting choice for the first team, perhaps the shoulder injury of the Basque man was a reason that accelerated the signing of Ramos, but the true is that the coaching staff is now more relaxed after hearing the latest news on Aranzubia.

The doctors confirmed that the ex-Athletic Bilbao is better from his shoulder problem and that he should be fit for the opening day in liga against Real Zaragoza. On the past month it was announced that the Basque keeper suffers from a subacromial injury on his left shoulder; it isn’t a serious problem, but it’s hard to surpass due to the time needed for the healing. Later it was announced that he was needing three injections, but it the end the keeper just needed two. Now, it is expected that Aranzubia will start to train during next week.

Meanwhile, the big “loser” on the arrival of Felipe Ramos might be Manu; the Asturian should stay as the second keeper at the first team, but the Asturian ends his contract in June of 2011 and the presence of Ramos could be an indication that the club won’t renew the ex-Sporting keeper. Currently Manu has been playing as a starter in all the pre-season games of Deportivo, and he has left some doubts due to his performance in some specific actions.

But the big competence will be at Fabril, because three young promises are fighting for the starting spot.23-year-old Diego Rivas starts leading the race after been the hero in the playoff against Burgos, actually he has been the second keeper with the first team after the injury of Aranzubia, and it will be interesting to realize what will coach Tito Ramallo decides with the arrival of Filipe Ramos.

Finally, Eduardo Sousa Pérez ‘Edu’ seems to be the big loser at Deportivo B; the 19-year-old keeper was just promoted from Juvenil A for the new season and it’s uncertain if he will have minutes on the Segunda B competition. There’s a sixth keeper working at the club: Marcos Valín (22). He was the starting choice for Fabril during the past season, but later suffered a serious knee injury when he was training with the first team. In the end he will be released, but until the Lugo-born keeper is totally recovered he will stay working with the team.
