On Saturday president Lendoiro confirmed the renewal of David Rochela, one of the most promising players of Depor’s youth system. He will stay until 2015 and will try to help the team to achieve the promotion to Primera.

The renewal of central defender David Rochela was signed in the first days of May, but it was officially announced until last Saturday, because president Lendoiro didn’t want to distract the attention as the first team was still trying to survive at Primera División. The contract of the As Pontes-born defender was lasting until 2013, but this renewal is increasing his period at the club until 2015.

Rochela has been playing with Deportivo B since 2008, but is training on a permanent basis at the first team since January of 2010. Lotina allowed his debut in Copa Del Rey and liga during the season 2009/10; some people was expecting to see him playing more frequently for the season that has just ended, but the solid work of Lopo and Colotto reduced his participation to just two appearances in liga plus four games in Copa.

Now, the relegation to Segunda could be a useful factor for him, because the exit of Lopo, and the probably departure of Colotto, might open a door to him, because at this point Aythami and Rochela are the only two confirmed central defenders ahead of next season. However, new coach Oltra still has to decide the role that the Galician youngster will have at the team, even if he will still alternating between Fabril and Depor’s first team.

It is a decision that will depend on the exit of Colotto and on the possible arrival of reinforcements for that zone on the pitch. But Rochela can also perform as a defensive midfielder, a position that’s also experiencing a facelift with the exits of Juan Rodriguez, Antonio Tomás and Juca.
