DEPORTIVO IN NOVEMBER

02 Nov 2011
The month of truth for Depor; Oltra’s team still has to prove its candidacy for the promotion spots and faces four direct rivals in December. Three of them are among the group of favourites, while the other is a newcomer making a solid season.

It’s now or never for Deportivo; there are big doubts on the real potential of Oltra’s team as the Galicians have been unable to demonstrate a stable performance that can put them at the top of the standings; instead Los Blanquiazuleshave suffered big and unexpected setbacks against inferior rivals. Now, and still trying to find its identity on the pitch, Deportivo starts a complicate stage on the Segunda season.

Because the team will face four of the five teams that were candidates to the promotion since the beginning of the tournament, it will also meet another recently promoted club living a good moment, and in the middle of this the so-expected Galician Derby, the first in five years as Celta spent the previous four seasons at Liga Adelante.

November starts with the visit to the Nueva Condomina in order to face Real Murcia CF; Los Pimentoneros might be a recently promoted club, but they have a rich history that includes 50 seasons at Segunda, including eight titles in the league. Murcia had a tough start with three defeats within the first four matches, but lately they have improved a lot as they drag a mark of eight matches without been defeated, including three straight wins, reason why they are only one point behind Deportivo, so it can be considered as a match against a direct rival.

Then, one of the most expected moments on the season will arrive: the Galician derby against RC Celta de Vigo. Like Deportivo, Los Celtiñas were having an irregular season, with ups and downs that created doubts with their performance, but last week Celta took advantage of its three matches against the bottom teams and clinched three straight wins that have put them inside the promotion zone, so they will arrive pretty motivated to the match that will be played at the Riazor.

Elche CF will be the next rival as Depor visits the Martínez Valero stadium; Los Ilicitanos are another candidate for the promotion spots. They had a tough moment between matchdays 5 & 7 as they suffered three straight defeats, but the team has recovered and has only lost one of its last five games in the competition; currently they are only two points behind Deportivo. A curiosity on this team is that five of its eleven matches on the season have ended 1-0 or 0-1, mark only surpassed by the seven narrow scores of Hércules CF.

And Deportivo ends the month hosting UD Almeria at the Riazor; the Andalusians were relegated at the same time than the Galicians and currently are at the second place at the standings, just three points above Depor. Almeria has just suffered on defeat on this campaign and its main strength is the defense as they have only conceded eight goals, number only improved by the four goals leaked by Hércules CF.
