Deportivo targets the direct promotion spots visiting one of its nightmare pitches; Oltra won’t make too many changes, while Valladolid relies on Nauzet Aleman and Manucho.

Real Valladolid is one of the favourites to fight for the promotion spots and the violet team is confirming its candidacy with solid numbers at the Segunda season. First to all they represent the team with lesser defeats on the season, only two: 1-3 Vs. Murcia (matchday 05) and 0-1 at UD Las Palmas (matchday 11). Then, Valladolid is the second best home team in the league with 18 points added playing on this condition, just one point behind the mark of Deportivo.

Besides, Valladolid is the fourth best defense at Liga Adelante with 14 goals allowed after 15 matchdays, mark only below the one of Hércules CF (8), Córdoba CF (13) and AD Alcorcón (13). It also present solid scoring numbers as the team has scored 22 goals, which means the fifth best mark in the league, only above Deportivo (25), Barca B (25), RC Celta (25) and Elche CF (23).

Meanwhile, Deportivo is growing on the season as the Galicians are already the best home team and the best scorer in the league, however there is a pending issue: the away matches. So far the Galicians have only added 7 points after 7 matches played away from the Riazor, it represents the sixth worst mark in the league, without doubt a problem that could cost the promotion if the problem persists.

And the visit to the José Zorilla stadium doesn’t seem to be the most suitable place to start a reaction, because historically it represents the fourth worst visit of Depor in a league competition as the Galicians have only added 22 points after 40 visits to the city. Depor has only added lesser points in the visits to Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Oltra’s Depor is aware that, in order to achieve the promotion, it isn’t enough to achieve the results at home; the players and the coaching staff know that they also need to add several points when they perform away from the Riazor, and this means to stop the bleeding on the road. Deportivo has disappointed everybody in previous visits, like the ones to CD Alcoyano (0-2), FC Cartagena (1-2) and especially to AD Alcorcón (0-4), rivals that at the moment were considered as accessible.

But now Depor not only visits one of the best local teams in the league, but also one of the toughest opponents that the Galicians have met in the road during its centenary history: Real Valladolid. So, this is now only a confrontation against the present of Deportivo, but also against part of its past.

Fortunately coach José Luis Oltra is only having three casualties for the meeting; in the end Riki wasn’t picked despite been training at the top during the whole week. The doctors don’t want more problems with him and decided to wait for one more week, the other two players at the injury room are striker Xisco and left-back Claudio Morel. The discards for tactical reasons are Rochela, Diego Seoane, Saul and Pablo Álvarez

Not too many changes are expected at the 4-2-3-1 lineup; Daniel Aranzubia will be at the goal, Laureano Sanabria ‘Laure’ will cover the right-back position; Ayoze Diaz will perform on the left side, while the doubt is if Ze Castro will keep playing alongside Diego Colotto at the centre or if Aythami Artiles will regain his spot after his suspension.

At midfield, Álex Bergantiños and Juan Dominguez will perform on the pivote positions; Bruno Gama will stay at the right wing, same thing at the left with Andrés Guardado; the playmaker in the formation will be Juan Carlos Valerón, while Lassad Nouioui will be the central attacker.

Valerón talked with reporters before the trip to Valladolid; the Canarian was emphasizing the attitude that Deportivo needs for the clash, ”We must give the sensation of been a competitive team, because at the start of la liga we were giving the feeling of been a team that went out to see things coming. A win on here will be important, though a lot still ahead.”

Finally, Borja Fernandez who is a former player of Valladolid, was saying that, “I am eager to play and let’s wait. If the coach needs me, then I could have a chance. Let’s hope I could make my debut with the team. It will be a double joy: to make my debut and to do it in a place that was my home during four years. I think Valladolid is a similar team to us, because they have very good players and could make a good match. For me they have potential, and the true is that they and we are the two best teams in the league.”

List of picked players (18): Aranzubia, Lux goalkeepers); Manuel Pablo, Laure, Colotto, Ze Castro, Aythami, Ayoze (defenders); Álex, Juan Domínguez, Jesús Vázquez, Borja Fernández, Guardado, Bruno Gama, Salomão, Valerón (midfielders); Bodipo and Lassad (strikers).

Last season, and after a poor first round, Real Valladolid lost the train to Primera División as it was defeated by Elche CF in the promotion playoff, now they don’t want to lose another chance and Los Blanquivioletas are fighting since the start of the tournament in order to lie among the two top positions, which gives a direct ticket to the elite of Spanish football, and they are accomplishing the mission as they are already second at the standings and presenting pretty solid numbers.

However, there’s a darker facet surrounding Valladolid, and it’s related to the financial crisis that’s menacing the existence of the club. The club owes 38 million Euros, the office employees haven’t been paid within the last two months and it’s commented that some might be fired in the coming days, neither the players have been paid; some of them are dragging unpaid wages from the past season.

The main hope of president Carlos Suárez was to rebuild the José Zorilla stadium and transform it into a complex that would be named “Valladolid Arena”, a project that included a mall and a sporting center that should have brought fresh money, but a legal dispute with the government of Castile & León is killing the project leaving Suárez with empty hands.

During the week the situation became more tense and the players are already thinking of the possibility of taking the case to the Players Association (AFE), now the fans fear that this crisis could affect the current positive streak of the team, a possibility admitted by captain Javier Baraja, We must separate the economic aspect from football, but it’s complicated as you spend the whole week talking of the problem, plus reading the papers and realizing that the situation is tough. It’s complicated, but so far the 27 or 28 players on here are facing everything.”

Besides, there are injury problems striking the team at the point on the season, in this sense strikers Dani Aquino (muscular), Alberto Bueno (knee sprain), defender Juan Jesús Gutiérrez ´Juanito’ (adductor), plus long-term cases of centre midfielder Carlos Lázaro (knee) and right-back Fernando Varela (vertebrae) represent the five casualties for the clash.

But coach Miroslav Djukic is recovering right winger Nauzet Aleman, who missed the past clash with FC Cartagena due to the illness of his father; he has been a real threat for Depor in the past as he scored three goals within the last two meetings played against the Galicians. The Canarian is content as he will meet players from his homeland, ”It’s going to be an interesting clash; it’s going to spectacular to meet Canarian players like Valerón, Aythami and Manuel Pablo.” He said to a local paper.

The lineup will be a 4-4-2 figure, with ex-Elche Jaime Jiménez defending the goal, former Athletic Bilbao man Mikel Balenziaga will cover the right-back position, Carlos Peña will perform on the left sector, while the central positions at defense will be for Marc Valiente and Jesús Rueda.  Captain Álvaro Rubio and Víctor Pérez will cover midfield sector.

Nauzet Aleman represents the only novelty compared to the team that drew with Cartagena as he claims the right wing, while Sisinio González ‘Sisi will attack from the left flank; he has scored three goals on the season and already gave problems to Depor in the past, even scoring once against the Galicians. Finally, the centre of the attack will be for Angolan Mateus Alberto Contreiras ‘Manucho’ and Óscar Javier González, this last man is a former Zaragoza man that has scored three times on the Segunda tournament.

List of picked players (18): Jaime, Dani Hernandez (goalkeepers); Balenziaga, Rueda, Valiente, Víctor Mongil, Peña (defenders), Álvaro Rubio, Baraja, Nafti, Sisi, Nauzet, Jofre, Marquitos, Víctor Pérez, Óscar (midfielders); Manucho and Javi Guerra (strikers)

Valladolid: (4-4-2) Jaime - Balenziaga, Rueda, Valiente, Peña – Nauzet Aleman, Álvaro Rubio, Víctor Pérez, Sisi – Óscar, Manucho
Deportivo: (4-2-3-1) Aranzubia – Laure, Colotto, Aythami or Ze Castro, Ayoze – Álex Bergantiños, Juan Dominguez – Bruno Gama, Valerón, Guardado – Lassad.
Referee: Mario Melero López (33, 4th season at Segunda División)
Kick-off: 20h30 CET (José Zorilla stadium)
