DEPORTIVO IN FEBRUARY

02 Feb 2012
Three away games for Deportivo during February, the Galicians will have to defend the leadership and demonstrate their improvement on the road, which includes a visit to top-flight Hércules CF.

If in January Deportivo was having the advantage of playing almost all its games at the Riazor; now, in February, things are changing as Oltra’s team will play on the road three of the four meetings in the period. It will be a good test for the current streak of six straight wins in liga, and its’ that the Galicians have only collected 14 points on the road, which is the worst mark among the top five teams at Segunda División.

It starts on Saturday as Deportivo visits RC Recreativo de Huelva, a team that was only three points above relegation at the end of November and that now is closer to the promotion zone than to the pit, this after only suffering one defeat within the last seven matches, a positive streak that includes three wins within the last four meetings, so definitely Depor is facing, once again, a rival living its best moment.

Then Deportivo visits direct rival Hércules CF; the Valencians are currently fifth at the standings and are passing through a tough moment.  After matchday 11 (end of October) they were the undisputed leaders of Segunda División, but since then they have lost six of the last eleven meetings; last Saturday they were just defeated by relegation-troubled Villarreal B at the José Rico Pérez stadium.

At the middle of the month, Depor will play its only game of the month at the Riazor; it will be against Barcelona B, a B squad with unstable results on this season, perhaps caused by the injury problems affecting the first team. The Catalan youngsters spent five games without winning and just corrected the course with two straight wins: 2-0 Vs Xérez and 4-2 Vs. SD Huesca.

The point is that this meeting will take place in the middle of two important clashes for the first squad : Bayer 04 Leverkusen (UEFA Champions League, 1st-leg quarterfinals) and the home clash with Valencia CF (la liga, matchday 24). And with the injury problems at Guardiola’s team it might end resting players to the B squad.
