DEPORTIVO IN MARCH

29 Feb 2012
After breaking its winning streak, Deportivo returns to the fortress of the Riazor as it will play at home three of the four meetings in the month; it’s a great opportunity to extend the lead over the chasers in the quest for Primera División.

Deportivo will play at the Riazor three of the four matches to be played in March; it’s a great opportunity for Oltra’s men in order to consolidate their position at the top of the standings and extend the lead over the other aspirants to the promotion seats. And it’s that Depor has had an extraordinary home performance on this season, been the best local team in the league and with only five points dropped playing in this condition.

The first match of the month is the visit of AD Alcorcón to the Riazor; the Madrilenians are the toughest opponent in the month as they’re on fire, with an unbeaten streak of eight matches, including four victories within the last five games, reason why they are now a real contender for the playoffs spots -they are only two points behind the promotion zone- It’s a tough match, but Depor should feel motivated to revenge the 0-4 setback of the first round, which is the largest loss on this season.

CD Guadalajara represents the only away match on the month, again Depor plays in a small stadium (Pedro Escartín), but the rival is living a terrible moment, and it’s that the team from Castile-La Mancha has lost eight of its last nine meetings in liga, a terrible record that’s pulling them down to the relegation zone, actually Guadalajara is the worst Segunda club in 2012, with only three points added within the last two months, even worst mark that last place Gimnástic Tarragona (4 points in the period). The worst part is that they are dragging four straight defeats, all of them before direct rivals for the permanence.

Then Depor returns to La Coruña for two straight matches at the Riazor; the first of them before another rival trying to survive at Segunda: CD Alcoyano. At this point the Valencian team represents the safety in the league, only one point above relegation; they have only added seven points in 2012 and have lost four of the last five meetings in the league.

March ends with the visit of Córdoba CF to the Riazor; the Andalusian team reentered into the promotion zone during the weekend thanks to a 1-0 victory over UD Las Palmas, but still is a team living an unstable situation, because they have been unable to win two straight matches since November; a clear demonstration of their erratic behavior is what happened in February, they cut the unbeaten streak of Real Valladolid (2-0) only to be trashed in the next match before promotion aspirant CD Numancia (0-5).
