THE RECORD: 14 STRAIGHT WINS AT THE RIAZOR

03 May 2012
Deportivo is at the edge of tying its best mark of straight victories playing at the Riazor: 14. It won’t be an easy task as first the Galicians must beat Real Valladolid, club that’s currently the second place at Liga Adelante 2011-12.

After breaking the club’s mark of straight victories in a league tournament, Oltra’s Deportivo is now targeting to tie a new record: the number of straight wins playing at the Riazor. The Galicians have won the last thirteen matches at home, main reason that put them at the top of Liga Adelante.

Depor drew at home against Gimnástic Tarragona (2-2, Oct 15), and since then Los Blanquiazules clinched the three points facing Girona CF (3-2, matchday 11),  RC Celta (2-1, matchday 13), UD Almeria (3-1, matchday 15), CD Numancia (3-1, matchday17), Xérez CD (2-1, matchday 19), Villarreal B (1-0, matchday 21), FC Cartagena (2-1, matchday 22), Barcelona B (2-1, matchday 25), AD Alcorcón (2-1, matchday 27), CD Alcoyano (3-0 matchday 29), Córdoba CF (2-0, matchday 31), Real Murcia (3-1, matchday 33) and Elche CF (4-3, matchday 35).

The current record in the centenary history of the club is fourteen straight victories at the Riazor, a mark that has survived for thirty-five years. The streak started at the last matchday of the season 1974/75 as Deportivo was playing at Tercera División. Depor clinched a 3-0 victory over Caudal Deportivo (25-May-75). The Galicians ended that season as the Champions at group one and were promoted to Segunda División for the campaign 1975/76.

Then, Deportivo clinched 13 straight wins playing at the Riazor: 1-0 Vs. Rayo Vallecano, 2-1 Vs. Deportivo Alavés, 2-0 Vs. Gimnástic Tarragona, 4-2 Vs. CD Tenerife, 2-0 Vs. RC Celta, 5-0 Vs. Barcelona Atletico, 1-0 Vs Cádiz CF, 2-0 Vs. CD Ensidesa, 1-0 Vs. Real Valladolid, 2-0 Vs RC Recreativo, 2-0 Vs. UD San Andrés, 2-0 Vs CD Terrasa and 2-1 Vs. Córdoba CF. The rally lasted eight months ending on March 03, 1976 as Deportivo lost against Burgos CF (0-1).

Now, in order to tie and later impose a new mark, Deportivo has to defeat Real Valladolid and UD Las Palmas, it won’t be an easy mission, especially facing Valladolid, an in-form team that’s the second place at the standings and proudly exhibiting a mark of six straight victories in the competition.
