REVIEW: FABRIL 0 – OURENSE 0 (TERCERA)

17 May 2012
The miracle wasn’t possible and Deportivo B won’t take part of the promotion playoffs to Segunda División B after a goalless game facing the champion of the group. Once again a grey display of Ramallo’s boys.

BEFORE THE GAME
Fabril had small options of reaching the playoffs to Segunda B; the first thing was to achieve the three points in this game; later to wait for the defeat of Pontevedra CF at UD Somozas, and a loss or draw of RC Vilalbés visiting SD Negreira. In resume a triple combination that seemed improbable. To make things worse there were still a lot of casualties hitting the team as central defender Diego Vieytes, right-back Adriá Gallego (both knee), centre midfielders David Garcia (shoulder) and Richi (toe) plus striker Luis Fernandez (knee ligaments) and right winger Diego Vela (muscular) were all out of the clash.

At least coach Tito Ramallo, in his last game with the B team, was recovering left-back defender Ángel Martinez, who was suspended, plus right winger Diego Vela, who was injured. Besides keeper Marc Martinez and defender Uxio Marcos were returning after been concentrated with the first team, Marc was even joining the group after the long trip from Soria [the first team faced Numancia the day before]

The lineup was a 4-2-3-1 figure; Marc Martinez was defending the goal, Ángel Martinez returned to the left-back position, Uxio performed at the right side, while the central defenders were Pablo Ínsua and Oriol Ricarte. Pedro Crespo and David Garcia were the centre midfielders, Diego Vela was the right winger, Victor Diaz attacked from the left flank, Juan Carlos was the playmaker in the scheme and David Cubillas was the central attacker.

CD Ourense was the rival for the occasion, the team coached by José Luis Míguez ‘Luisito’ arrived as the leader in the group; they were still trying to secure the first position, which means to avoid two rounds in the promotion playoff and even to enjoy a second chance in case of a failure. The only casualty at the team was suspended midfielder Adrián Mouriño. the top scorer at the team is Eder with 14 goals in favour. He was a starter. Sergio Martinez, the brother of Fabril’s goalie, was also part of the starting formation.

THE MATCH
It was a final matchday without tension or drama, because Pontevedra CF took an early lead on its game, which turned this confrontation into a useless game for Depor B. The only excitement came as second place Alondras claimed the lead on its visit game to Racing Ferrol, which was forcing Ourense to win the match in order to win the group, but soon Ferrol equalized and even scored a second goal, which fired the party among the visiting fans at Abegondo.

Perhaps that’s the reason why Pontevedra dominated the first part; there was a battle at midfield between Crespo and David Garcia before Alex and Yebra, duel that was won by the visiting couple. In this sense Ourense had the ball possession, though they barely created danger against Marc Martinez; they insisted through endless crosses coming from both sides, and their only clear chance was direct free-kick of Claudio Giráldez that was cleared by Depor’s goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, Fabril was reduced by its own miseries; there was no connection between midfield and attack, so Juan Carlos had to delay his position, while Cubillas was isolated up front. The only opportunity for Depor B in the half came with a cross of Oriol that Victor sent over the crossbar.

Things changed for the second part; Fabril was now having the ball possession and the attacking line was more active, this since Álvaro Lemos replaced Cubillas. The first opportunity in the half was for Fabril after Vela attempted from outside the area, but he missed the target.

But Ourense shacked this dominion with the entry of Brazilian Milton Minervino, who revitalized the attacking line of the visitors. At minute 60, he had the best chance for his team; he collected the ball at the right corner of the area, then eluded two rivals to fire a strong shot that just missed the target by inches.

Then Juan Carloshad a great opportunity to score the winning goal; he stole the ball at midfield and attempted an impossible shot from 60 meters, still he was close to surprise visiting goalie Patricio ‘Pato’ Guillén (69’).

At this point, twenty minutes before the final whistle, Pontevedra was winning 0-3, so Depor’s youngsters knew that the season was getting to an end. Ramallo tried to clinch the three points with the entry of Adrián Martinez and Iago Beceiro, modification that tuned the draw into a 3-5-2, but the side that had the best opportunities within the final minutes was Ourense. The main one was a beautiful combination between Veloso and Amilton that ended with a cross that Eder headed over the bar. After the final whistle Ourense’s players celebrated on the pitch as they were crown as the Champions of the group.

AFTER THE GAME
Season over for Deportivo B; the results were against Fabril almost since the kick-off, and the plane game of the team didn’t help to approach the miracle. In the end a tasteless and boring game that didn’t match the expectations of the fans in the last matchday of the Tercera Season. Deportivo B ends the season at the sixth place, five points under the promotion zone. Now it’s time to plan the new season, which could turn to be a new facelift for the team as Tito Ramallo is leaving. Still, the players aren’t on vacations as they are training on this week, besides some of them will be training with the first team until the end of the Segunda season. They could even get some minutes in case Depor achieves the promotion in the coming matchdays.
