Deportivo searches a new step towards the promotion; Aranzubia is returning, though Oltra could end using the same lineup of the past two games. The rival is another demotivated team that’s playing for nothing and that lives an institutional crisis.

Both Deportivo and Xérez CD have practically met their goals; the Galicians are just pending of the mathematical confirmation in order to celebrate the promotion to Primera, while the Andalusians clinched the promotion without playing due to the results saw on Saturday. Oltra’s team will celebrate the return to Liga BBVA with a victory plus a loss of Real Valladolid, this since RC Celta already defeated CD Alcoyano (4-0). Xérez CD, meanwhile, is already saved after the defeat of CD Alcoyano; it means great news as they don’t have a favourable calendar: they still have to face RC Celta, Barca B and Hércules CF.

The Andalusians are just the 16th best home team in the league adding 26 points in the 19 home games played at Chapín. Their only win at home against a promotion aspirant was over Hércules CF (2-1 matchday 20). Depor, meanwhile, despite its seven losses on the road is the fourth best visitor in the league, this after adding 29 points in 18 matches played on this condition; actually the Galicians could tie the first place in this department if they win this game plus Wednesday’s visit to Nástic.

Chapin has been a positive visit for Depor in past opportunities; the Galicians have won three of the seven matches played there, including the most recent one, the only clash played on the Primera season 2009/10. It was a 3-0 win with a brace of Juca plus a goal of striker Riki.

Finally, a curios stat: Chapin seems to be a placid team for the clubs targeting to secure the promotion, and it’s that in the recent past three clubs have clinched the promotion on this pitch: UD Levante, Cádiz CF and Gimnástic de Tarragona; ironically these three outfits went back to Segunda after just one year at the elite of Spanish football.

In the first round in liga it was mentioning the existence of a magic quartet –Valerón, Guardado, Riki and Lassad- that was scoring or assisting in the major part of the goals, now the deadly combination is reduced to two men, a dynamic duo that’s leading Deportivo to Primera División, it’s the couple composed by Juan Carlos Valerón and Bruno Gama, and it’s that combined these two players have scored or assisted in 20 of the 35 goals scored by Depor in the second round (57% of the total).

Portuguese Bruno Gama beat his groin injuries and has become into the most-in form player of Depor, scoring six times and assisting in other five opportunities during the second round (31% of the goals in the period), while El Flaco is living a second youth scoring four goals and give five assists in the period (26% of the total). Curiously these two men have never assisted each other.

Now these two men lead a squad that’s reaching a decisive week, seven days in which everyone expects to see Deportivo achieving the promotion to Primera División. There’s a third man that’s awakening lately: Andrés Guardado.  The Mexican winger scored a brace from the penalty spot plus giving two assists within the last five matches in liga.

For the clash at Chapín coach Oltra is recovering Daniel Aranzubia, the keeper is fit to play after been out for two weeks due to an Achilles injury, but the good presentations of German Lux could move the Valencian trainer to leave him at the goal; on Saturday Aranzubia was saying that they don’t know who´s going to play, “The coach will decide; all the players in the list want to play, but the coach is the ones who decides. Anyhow, the goal is safe no matter who plays, so we aren’t concern.”

The rest of the lineup should be the same one that played the last two games in liga; Claudio Morel didn’t recover in time from an adductor problem, so Ayoze Díaz remains covering the left-back position, Laureano Sanabria ´Laure´ plays at the right side, while the two centre backs are Argentine Diego Colotto and Portuguese Ze Castro.

Álex Bergantiños and Juan Dominguez are the two pivotes, Portuguese Bruno Gama attacks from the right side, Mexican Andrés Guardado does it from the left, Juan Carlos Valerón is the playmaker in the scheme and Lassad Nouioui should continue at the centre of the attack, though Oltra could allow the return of Riki to the starting eleven.

The other two players joining Morel at the injury room are centre midfielder Jesús Vázquez and left winger Diogo Salomão.  The players out for tactical reasons are right-back Diego Seoane, central defender David Rochela and striker Rodolfo Bodipo.

Depor will face the game knowing that RC Celta won its clash against CD Alcoyano, so the players will go out in order to clinch the victory and then wait for the result of Valladolid [their home game with CE Sabadell kick-offs one and a half hour before the clash].

Still, Oltra and the players are convinced that the promotion won’t be secured in this match; as Aranzubia told to reporters ”People are thinking of Celta, the fans believe they can’t draw or lose, but the true is that we are the ones that have the most difficult game. The situation isn’t done yet and we must win two more games. The performance of Celta has been great and for that reason we haven’t celebrated the promotion. I believe we won’t clinch the promotion tomorrow, because Celta and Valladolid will win the four remaining games.”

Juan Dominguez stated that, “We must face the final stretch on the season in the same way: facing the competition game by game. We must try to win this game and then the next one. From the outside it seems that we have achieved the promotion since a month ago, but it isn’t like that. We still have to win one or two more games. We are facing a tough opponent and must go out focused since the kick-off.”

Finally, Riki said that the team must remain calm, “The rivals are pretty strong, but we depend on ourselves and on what we can do. I don’t like to talk of celebrations, people are feeling euphoric expecting for the date of the promotion, but we should remain outside of this euphoria  thinking only of the game at Xérez and of winning.”

List of picked players: (18): Aranzubia, Lux (goalkeepers); Laure, Colotto, Ze Castro, Aythami, Ayoze, Manuel Pablo (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Juan Domínguez, Valerón, Guardado, Bruno Gama, Borja, Saúl (midfielders); Riki, Xisco and Lassad (strikers)

Deportivo is visiting another club navigating in deep waters and that right now is busier fighting against itself rather than ending the season in the best possible way. And it’s that the situation at Andalusian club Xérez CD is beyond chaotic. The club is going out of the administration figure and it isn’t clear who the owner is. Currently, there are two groups fighting for control and the legal possession of the shares, and to make things more bizarre even president Rafael Mateos has said in public that he isn’t sure who the owner is.

And there’s more, Mateos is on war with the sporting director of the club, former Depor man Emilio  Viqueira, during the winter window he was making signings without consulting Viqueira and in February the former player of Depor described the situation at the club as a “badly mounted circus”, in recent days he even confessed to La Voz De Galicia that he has received death threats and that he fears for his life.

The current coach of the team, Vicente Moreno, is supporting Viqueira and he also feels persecuted; since the past week he has denounced that someone wants “to discredit him”; he repeated the speech in the press conference before facing Depor [see the related article] though he didn’t mention names.  In the middle of this chaos there’s a demotivated team that has only added one point within the last three games in liga, but that, fortunately, they already secured the permanence at Segunda División.

And it’s hard to predict the lineup that will be used against Deportivo; on the past weekend Xérez lost at home against Villarreal B (0-1), then Moreno changed the half of the squad for midweek’s goalless game against FC Cartagena, and it isn’t clear if the rotations will continue against Oltra’s outfit, starting for the fact that the coach picked all the available players for the clash.

There are only two things for sure: the first is that Moreno will keep playing with a 4-4-2 figure, and the second is that ex-Betis man Toni Doblas will continue to be the goalkeeper. The rest is mere speculation.  The media in Jérez believes that former Recreativo Raul Cámara would cover the right side of the defense, Jesús Mendoza could be playing on the left, while the central positions are for Asturian David Lombán and ex-Levante Miquel Robusté.

Ex-Rayo Vallecano Rafael Garcia and former Betis man Israel Bascón perform at midfield, ex-Mallorca Alejandro Campano attacks from the right wing, José Vega does it from the left; while the attacking zone could be for the two Pichichis at the team, ex-Atletico José Mari and ex-Real Sociedad Iñigo Vélez, both men have scored seven goals on the liga season.

List of picked players: (21) Toni Doblas, Toni Lechuga (goalkeepers); Campano, Mendoza, Lombán, Raúl Cámara, Calahorro, Robusté (defenders); Bruno Herrero, Cordero, José Vega, Rafa García, Capi, Israel, Rueda, Redondo, José Luis Capdevila (midfielders); José Mari, Tato, Iñigo Vélez and Maldonado (strikers)
