Andrés Guardado is the RCDLC.com player of the season 2011/12. The Mexican winger is the first player at the club with double-digit marks since Djalminha. He clearly dominated the chart from start to finish and was a vital piece for the promotion.

Definitely the season 2011/12 was a happy year for Deportivo; the Blanquiazul outfit, now coached by José Luis Oltra, clinched the promotion to Primera División and broke all kind of records in the way out of Segunda, so it’s normal to see an offensive player chosen as the best player of the season, and it shouldn’t be a surprise to see Andrés Guardado as the favourite player of the peña members at RCDLC.com

And it’s that the Mexican winger was one of the offensive  references in the scheme of Oltra; an important fact was that, this time, the ex-Atlas man wasn’t affected by the injures, in this sense he only missed one game due to injury reasons (the visit to UD Almeria), plus other five for been picked by his national team.

In this way a “healthy” Guardado commanded Deportivo during its short adventure at liga Adelante, and there’s a powerful stat that proves the importance of the Mexican during the season: he scored ten goals an provided twelve assists, becoming into the first player since the season 1999/2000 that achieves double-digit marks at Depor –the last man that did the same was Djalminha-

Only three players at Segunda División did the same on this season: Guardado, Celta’s Fabián Orellana and Hércules’ Michel, and there were only two players with double-digit marks at Primera División: stars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. It proves that it isn’t something easy to achieve.

Another fact to have in mind is that Andrés was ending contract at Deportivo, and subsequently signed a contract with UEFA Champions League’s participant Valencia CF, but the uncertainty regarding his future didn’t affect his commitment with the cause of promotion; for this and many other reasons Guardado has been chosen as the player of the season 2011/12.

The procedure for the voting has been the same of past years: each deportivo-la-coruna.com peña member awarded the three best Depor's players in every official match (liga & Copa) with the options of 5, 3 or 1 point according to their performance. . The totals of each match were added and the best three players on each game were awarded with 5, 3 or 1 point. The matches were also voted with a three-point ranking, which increased or decreased the effect of the voting; this was made in order to increase the impact of the matches where Depor presented a most solid performance. The totals were accumulated and the winners resulted to be the players with the higher number of points.

Guardado was the clear leader in the voting for the award, and it was pretty clear that he was going to win since some months ago, El Mago Valerón was the runner-up in the list and centre midfielder Juan Dominguez was third.
