On Thursday, Deportivo defined the list of friendly games for the pre-season 2012/13. The calendar is composed by eight games; seven of them will be played away from the Riazor. Two are against Primera rivals, one against a Portuguese team.

The calendar for the pre-season 2012/13 was completed on Thursday as the club confirmed five new friendly encounters. Totally, Depor will play eight matches in a matter of twenty-one days. Seven of those matches will be played away from the Riazor, this since the club is planting new grass at the stadium and it will only be available for the Teresa Herrera trophy.

The club has planned to gradually increase the level of the games, in this sense Depor’s first team will face Viveiro CF in which is now the first friendly of the pre-season (July 20). The game will be played just twelve days after the players resume the trainings; Viveiro is a Vigo-based club that’s currently performing at Preferente Autonómica. Oltra’s men already faced this team on the past pre-season achieving a 3-0 victory (Jul 22, 2011).

Racing Club Villalbés is the second rival on the list; the club from Vilalba was one of the surprises on the past Tercera season, though they were unable to qualify for the promotion playoffs. This match will be played as part of the stage of the team at the city of Vilalba. Depor faced this rival on the past-pre-season and it achieved a 5-1 win (Jul 24, 2011); actually Viveiro and RC Villalbés are exactly the same first two rivals faced on the past pre-season.

Deportivo is also going to face two of the two clubs that have just clinched the promotion to Segunda División: Sociedad Deportiva Ponferradina and Club Deportivo Lugo. SD Ponferradina is a club based in the city of Ponferrada, just 173 Km. away from A Coruña. Both clubs are considered as “allies” of Depor; actually it’s very probable to see some players going out loaned to any of these two clubs.

In the middle of both matches Depor will face recently relegated club Sporting Gijón, this as part of the Emma Cuervo trophy. This trophy is played in the city of Ribadeo (Asturias) and it was confirmed on Thursday by the club. This will be the 60th edition of the tournament and Deportivo already played it sixteen times, winning the title in nine opportunities.

After these matches, Oltra’s outfit is going to face three rivals from Primera that represent the last three tests before debuting in liga. The first is the meeting against Futebol Clube Paços de Ferreira from Portugal; it’s the only game on the calendar that’s going to be played outside of Spain. Os Castores ended tenth on the Portuguese Primera league that has just ended.

The pre-season will end with two friendly games against Primera clubs Sevilla FC and Atletico Madrid, the first as part of the Antonio Puerta memorial trophy and the second as part of the Teresa Herrera; one week later Depor debuts in liga (August 17 or 18).
