Deportivo debuts in liga hosting Osasuna; the first derby will be played at Balaídos on October 28, one week before the Galicians are hosting Barcelona. The second matchday is the visit to Valencia CF. Real Madrid visits the Riazor on February 24.

The calendar for the season 2012/13 was released on Tuesday; Deportivo La Coruña debuts at the Riazor hosting Osasuna. After 42 participations at Primera División this is the first time that in which the Galicians are facing the Navarrans in the first matchday of the season. Within the last decade Depor has only lost three times in the first matchday: 2-4 Vs. Real Betis (2002/03); 0-3 Vs. UD Almeria (2007/08) and 2-3 at Real Madrid (2009/10).

The first visit of the season will be the one at Mestalla playing against Valencia CF (August 26); the derbies will be played in October and March. The first one will be disputed at Balaídos (matchday 09) and the second at the Riazor (matchday 28).

Other important dates in the calendar are the matches against FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. The Catalans visit the Riazor at the end of October (matchday 08) and later Oltra’s team visit the Camp Nou in March (matchday 27). Real Madrid host Depor at the end of September (matchday 06) and visit the Riazor in February (matchday 25).

A characteristic of the calendar is that Depor is facing all the rivals that Real Madrid is meeting on the week before, and then that same rival is facing Barcelona, so it can be said that all the rivals are facing Real Madrid and Barca in a matter of three weeks and in the middle they are playing against Oltra’s Deportivo.

The season 2012/13 is going to be a little longer than the previous year, because there’s only one matchday that will be played in midweek (matchday 37, May 29) and therefore the tournament is ending until June 1st. Also, there are three free weekends due to the FIFA World Cup qualifiers (September 9, October 14 and March 24)

In the afternoon coach José Luis Oltra reacted to the results of the draw; for him the outcome isn’t so important, ”In the end you play against all the teams at all the stadiums. I never thought the calendar was important. You analyze things with the pass of time. Remember that some seasons ago Osasuna was hosting Barcelona and Madrid within the last matchdays, they won and they saved themselves, so you can see one thing before, but later is different as you need to see details with the pass of time. You might think that’s better to play against the big teams before, but you have to look to details like the Champions League dates.”

But what Oltra didn’t like of the calendar is the fact of been facing the rivals of Real Madrid in the week after playing against the current champions, ”What I don’t like is that we are getting the rivals that [Real] Madrid is leaving in the way, and then this rival plays against Barcelona. In other words, we are in the middle of Real Madrid and Barcelona. For now we’re focused in Osasuna, later we´ll think of Valencia, Getafe and the others.”

About Copa Del Rey; the 20 Primera clubs will start to compete in November as part of the last-32 round, the last-16 round will be played in December. The quarterfinals in January (9 &16), the semifinals at the end of the same month (23 & 30) and the final game was scheduled for Saturday May 18th, 2013. On that same weekend matchday 36 in liga will be played, so the finalists will have to move their matches for the previous Wednesday.
