ROCHELA LOANED TO RACING SANTANDER

21 Jul 2012
David Rochela is going to play loaned at Racing Santander ahead of the season 2012/13; the operation was confirmed on Friday. The Galician central defender is going out in order to find the minutes that he didn’t get at Depor.

Deportivo have found a destiny to one of its youngest players: David Rochela. The centre back has been loaned to Racing Santander for the season 2012/13. The Cantabrians suffered the relegation to Segunda on the past season and they’re trying to build up a competitive team in order to attempt an early comeback, though it’s difficult as they’re currently on administration and are having big problems in order to hire players.

The As Pontes-born defender was a fixed starter in the three years that he spent at Deportivo B, but always found many problems to get a slot at the first team, mainly because he was the fourth or even the fifth option for both Lotina and Oltra.

He was always considered as one of the “jewels” at Deportivo’s youth teams; he has been international with Spain at all levels, winning a U-19 UEFA European title (2007) besides ending as the runners-up in the FIFA World Cup disputed in the same year (South Korea). Now, at the age of 22, he urgently needs opportunities and minutes.

Rochela was the second player at the first team with lesser minutes during the past liga campaign (3 games, 194 minutes). Oltra only used him for emergency situations as he was the fourth central defender at the squad and the situation wasn’t going to change for the returning campaign to Primera División, so the club and the player himself knew that a loan spell was a good choice in order to have minutes.

After the operation was officially announced, the player commented to reporters that, ”We knew since the end of the past season that I was going out. It’s a pity, but I am leaving only for one year, and I hope to return in order to continue fighting. It means to gain experience and it’s something positive. I’m aware that the option of Racing is pretty good, because I need minutes and continuity.”

The exit of Rochela means that Deportivo is going to sign a second central defender, apart to define the situation of Alberto Rodriguez, because for now Oltra only has two centre backs at the first team: Aythami Artiles and Ze Castro.
