BANANAS & CRABS

25 Jul 2012
Lendoiro said last week that he was hoping to close the banana operation before Tuesday, but the club is just about to close the arrival of Abel Aguilar missing the signings of two centre backs plus two strikers. The crabs are taking their time.

Deportivo still looking for reinforcements at the summer transfer window; Oltra needs two more centre backs and two central attackers. Two weeks ago president Lendoiro activated the ‘banana operation’ and the club signed three players in a matter of days, though later Alberto Rodriguez was ruled out of the list as he failed the medicals.

In the end the club just completed the signing of left winger Pizzi and left-back Evaldo as part of the banana operation, the duo joined centre midfielder André Santos, who was signed on the past month.

Last week Depor’s boss stated that he was hoping to close the banana operation by yesterday, which increased the rumors about new arrivals; he also said that the arrival of the so wished striker was going to take a while nicknaming him as a “velvet crab”. However, by Wednesday Deportivo was just pending in closing the signing on loan of midfielder Abel Aguilar, and there are no signs of more operations for the coming days.

It doesn’t mean that no more signings will come, but surely that things are complicated at the market and that the negotiations aren’t as advanced as Lendoiro would have wished. For now the club maintains silence, it just admitted to reporters that Abel Aguilar is landing today at A Coruña, but there are no hints of the other targets.

ALBERTO RODRIGUEZ SIGNS FOR RIO AVE
After failing the medicals at Deportivo, Peruvian Abel Rodriguez has signed a one-year deal with Rio Ave FC (Liga Zone Sagres). He firstly cancelled his contract with Sporting CP. The Portuguese club didn’t inform if the player had to undergo medicals before signing the contract.
