Ínsua scored his second goal on the pre-season as Depor achieved its fifth victory in seven matches. The rival gave some problems, but the true is that Oltra’s team had enough opportunities to achieve a bigger victory.

Deportivo was visiting O Couto (Orense) in order to play the last game of the pre-season against a rival from a lower league. CD Ourense clinched the promotion to Segunda B on the past season and is preparing the campaign in which they will try to achieve the permanence. It will be though as the club is currently without president and missing reinforcements.

Oltra presented a 4-2-3-1 squad, Lux was the starting keeper, Manuel Pablo covered the left-back position, Diego Seoane was on the right, the centre backs were Pablo Ínsua and Uxio. The two pivotes were Abel Aguilar and Álex Bergantiños. Bruno Gama was on the right wing, Pizzi was on the left, Valerón was the playmaker and Riki the central attacker.

Deportivo claimed the control over the actions since the first minutes; the first chance came at minute 6 as Pizzi was assisted by Riki and the Madrilenian attempted from the edge of the area, but his shot went over the crossbar.  The game was entertaining within the first twenty minutes; Bruno Gama was pretty active on the right wing, with Riki and Pizzi also having an important presence in attack.

Ourense was relying on the counterattack and created some problems through winger Iago Sanginés, but the defensive line was blocking all the roads to Aranzubia. At minute 16, Pizzi had a new chance with a direct free-kick, but he again missed the target.

Valerón appeared for the first time in the game at minute 20; El Flaco drilled a pass into the path of Riki and the final attempt from the Madrilenian attacker was cleared by local goalie Pato Guillen. Two minutes later Bruno Gama missed the target from the edge of the area after a solo-play in which he eluded two rivals.

A good chance for Depor came at minute 26; Riki and Pizzi combined at the right wing and the Portuguese winger attempted a crossed shot that was blocked by Alberto Campillo. Depor was looking sharp up front, but missed definition before the rival’s goal.

A proof of this situation was the two opportunities that the Blanquiazul outfit had at minute 34, first Bruno Gama collected the ball at the left side of the area and his shot was blocked by Pato, in the next play Riki failed from close range as his crossed shot missed the target. The last chance for Depor in the first half came at minute 43, it was a direct free-kick of Riki that was saved by Pato.

For the beginning of the second part, Oltra made two substitutions as Roderick and Juan Carlos replaced Uxio and Abel Aguilar. Juan Carlos performed as a centre midfielder behind Valerón. And the half started with the a big chance in the game for Ourense, Luismi picked a long ball coming from defense, Manuel Pablo couldn’t clear the danger and the striker missed from close range.

Depor’s first chance in the half came at minute 50; Valerón released a cross from the right that Riki headed inside the area, but his crossing attempt missed the target. And the goal finally arrived at minute 52; Pizzi threw a corner-kick and Pablo Ínsuaheaded the ball at the near post. It was a similar play to the goal scored by the defender against Lugo.

The goal didn’t change the picture as Deportivo still was dominating the actions; at minute 59, Riki missed the ball after a cross of Pizzi. Juan Carlos was the most active player in this half; he refreshed midfield territory and helped his team to continue with the harassment over Ourense’s area.

At minute 66, a corner of Valerón ended with a cross of Pizzi that was cleared by Pato. One minute later Riki threw a direct free-kick that was blocked by the local keeper. The best chance for Ourense in this half came at minute 70, again Luismi appeared to head a corner-kick, but he missed the target. One minute later Juan Carlos attempted a long-range shot and Pato made the save sending the ball to corner-kick.

Then Oltra made the last changes as Evaldo, Víctor Diaz and Nelson Oliveira entered for Seoane, Valerón and Riki. The substitutions kept the 4-2-3-1 figure, though Manuel Pablo moved his position to the right and Evaldo was at the left, while Victor Diaz was playing as a centre midfielder.

Oliveira had the last scoring opportunity in the game; it was a counterattack led by Juan Carlos in which the striker eluded the keeper, but the final attempt when out as he was out of angle to score. The rival presented some opposition, mainly at the beginning of the game, but later they fell down before the pressure of Oltra’s team. Depor had a solid performance, but missed aim to define the several scoring opportunities that were created.

Oltra admitted this weakness as he told to reporters after the game that, ”I’m satisfied for how the game was; for the intensity of the team though there are some things to improve as the aim and the definition of the plays. I´ve liked the team because it has a clear idea of what it’s doing; it dominates and creates a lot of opportunities though without materializing the chances.”

This is the last game of Depor against a team from a lower league; the last two matches in the pre-season will be against clubs from Primera División. The first of them will take place on Wednesday as the team visits Sevilla FC as part of the Antonio Puerta Memorial (Sánchez Pizjuán, 21h30 CET)
