DEPORTIVO IN OCTOBER

03 Oct 2012
Short but intense month for Deportivo La Coruña; the Galicians are only playing three games in October; the point is that one of the matches is the Galician derby and another one is the meeting against the almighty Barcelona.

At the beginning October may look as a soft month for Deportivo, because the Galician outfit is only facing three matches in a matter of thirty-one days, but the point is that it will be a highly emotionally charged time frame for what those meetings represent; besides the fact that Oltra’s team is starting the month after suffering two straight losses, which has approached the team to the relegation zone. Also to have in mind that two of the three games are taking place outside the Riazor.

The first game in the month is the visit to Rayo Vallecano; the Madrilenians are one of many teams trying to survive in the league; the team coached by Paco Jémez had a strong start adding 7 of the first 9 points in dispute, but have lost the last three games allowing twelve goals in the period, so they should feel stressed and really need the points. The true is that this is an unpredictable team, capable of scoring three times in a matter of ten minutes against Atletico or to play a disastrous match and allow six goals against Real Valladolid.

After a pause of one week due to the international action, Deportivo resume the competition hosting the other giant in the league: FC Barcelona. Despite facing problems to defeat the rivals the true is that the Catalans are the only la liga outfit that has won all the liga matches played so far, plus two Champions League matches; a meritorious thing taking in mind that coach Tito Vilanova is just debuting. The only positive thing for Depor is that Barca may rest some men as they will probably arrive late from international duty. This is the lonely game that Oltra’s team will play at home in October.

And the month ends in style, with the first Galician derby of the season. RC Celta had faced problems trying to adapt to the league; their main problem is the away matches as the Galician neighbors are one of the six la liga outfits that haven’t added points yet playing away from home –the others are Real Sociedad, UD Levante, Granada CF, CA Osasuna and RCD Espanyol- so they will try to base their strength at Balaídos, stadium in which they have added six of the nine points disputed so far.
