MATCHDAY 09: TENDENCY

30 Oct 2012
The results on matchday 09 are reaffirming the aspirations of the teams at the top of the standings, while it showed again the miseries of the teams at the bottom. Depor remain in relegation, though it broke a negative streak of four straight losses.

No big surprises in matchday 09 of La Liga; three of the first four places won their matches, while the last five places could only add two draws. FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid remain as the leaders and as the only two undefeated teams in the competition after winning their respective confrontations.

Barca achieved another big score netting five goals for the third time on the season during the visit to Rayo Vallecano (0-5), though three of the goals were scored within the final twelve minutes. Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, had an easy game defeating at home last-place CA Osasuna (3-1). Radamel Falcao scored the third goal and remains on fire scoring for the eighth straight opportunity.

Real Madrid also had an accessible meeting trashing Real Mallorca on the road (0-5); itís the biggest home loss for Caparrůs and the second time that the Majorcans allow five goals in a liga home match, the previous one was against Valencia CF in 2003 (0-5).

Malaga CF was the only team among the first four places that didnít won on the weekend; the Andalusians could only drag a point visiting relegation-troubled RCD Espanyol (0-0). Still, they remain third at the standings.

Real Betis is in a good mood and remain fifth on the table after a 1-0 win over depressed Valencia CF. The Andalusians have won four of their last six meetings in la liga. At the other corner, the Valencians have lost three of their last five games and are now tenth, five points below the promotion zone.

Levante UD is another team on fire; the Valencians trashed Granada CF at home (3-1) and it meant their third straight victory, reason why they are now sixth at the standings. Itís also the fourth straight victory a home for the Granota squad.

Sevilla CF is one of the big losers in the matchday as it was surprised visiting Real Zaragoza at La Romareda (1-2), once again the Andalusians are out of the European zone. Michelís team has lost three of the last four games and itís repeating the same situation of the past season, when they started strongly to end up out of Europe for the first time in almost a decade.

Meanwhile, Getafe CF, climbed some positions thanks to their important win at San Mamťs facing another depressed club: Athletic Bilbao (1-2). The Madrilenians have won three of their last four matches and are targeting the European zone.

The Galician derby was colorful, but it didnít help Deportivo and neither RC Celta; Oltraís team cut a streak of four straight losses, but the point isnít enough to leave the relegation zone, while Herreraís side cut a positive streak of four straight home victories and only lies three points above the drop zone.

Among the last five places only Deportivo and RCD Espanyol were able to grab points, because Athletic Bilbao, CA Osasuna and Granada were defeated. Therefore there were no significant changes at these positions.
