DEPORTIVO IN NOVEMBER

31 Oct 2012
Busy month for Deportivo as Oltra’s team starts to compete in Copa Del Rey; the Galician outfit will end up playing six matches in November, the half of those games are against RCD Mallorca. The main goal is to leave the drop zone.

Important month for Depor as the Galicians aren’t facing any of the big teams in la liga, which means a great opportunity to add points and return to winning ways. It’s still early days for further concerns, but it’s crucial to calm the nerves and leave the relegation zone as soon as possible.

The team must avoid distractions, and in this sense the Copa Del Rey could be determinant; Deportivo’s team starts to compete in the last-32 round and Oltra will surely give opportunities to the less habitual players focusing his attention in la liga.

Weirdly, it turns out that of the six games in the month (4 in liga and 2 in Copa Del Rey) the half of them will be played against RCD Mallorca. November begins and ends with the Copa clashes against Caparrós’ team, in the middle a match in liga that will be played at the Riazor. Things will surely be different in both competitions, at least in terms of the players that will be part of the starting eleven.

RCD Mallorca had a strong start, undefeated within the first five matches and adding eleven points, but later Los Bermellones lost the next four games and are now five points above the drop zone. Deportivo just cut a streak of four straight losses and a victory in the liga game will pull the team out of relegation, this since there’s a direct confrontation between Athletic Bilbao and Granada CF during the weekend.

Only two of the matches in the month will be played away from the Riazor; the first visit is against Real Zaragoza. Los Maños are, as always, having an instable season, they already lost five games, one more loss than Deportivo, but the Aragonians have chained two straight victories that have put them in a comfortable ninth position. However they aren’t a strong team at La Romareda as they have lost three of their previous five home matches.

Then Deportivo returns to the Riazor in order to host Levante UD, the surprise of the past season that still provoking positive thoughts. The Valencians had a slow start with only four points added within the first four matches, but they won the last three liga games and are currently living inside the European zone. Besides, they are second in their group at the UEFA Europa League and have great chances of passing the group stage. To mention that Levante has to pay a visit to Swedish club Helsingborgs IF just four days after visiting the Riazor.

And from the revelation to the big disappointment on the season, because the last liga game of the month is the visit to Athletic Bilbao, club that last season played the final in both Copa Del Rey and the UEFA Europa League and now everything has been transformed into a misery year. The team coached by Marcelo Bielsa is practically eliminated from the current edition of the Europa League and already lost five times in liga, reason why they are just one point above the relegation.

On this season the Basques already lost two times at San Mamés, including a spectacular 3-5 defeat against Real Betis in the opening matchday. To mention that this match will take place three days later after Athletic plays an important home clash against Olympique Lyonnais. The Basques need the victory in order to stay alive in the Europa League, which means that they won’t probably rest their best players to face Depor.
