DEPORTIVO IN DECEMBER

01 Dec 2012
After the elimination in Copa, Depor are now reduced to only focus in la liga. The last month of 2012 arrives with four matches; two against high flyers competitors, the other two before teams that are also trying to survive at Primera.

Four liga matches for Deportivo in December; the toughest part arrives at the beginning of the month as Oltra’s team must face two solid teams living at the top of the standings; then the year 2012 will end with two clubs aspiring to lower goals, including the last place at the standings.

On Sunday, the Galician outfit is hosting Real Betis at the Riazor; the Verdiblanco team is having a splendid year, living inside the European zone and arriving after a victory over Real Madrid (1-0). They’re also in the next round in Copa after a comfortable series over Real Valladolid (3-1). Still, the Andalusians have suffered two big blows on the season, and both occurred with the team playing on the road: 0-4 at Malaga CF (matchday 06) and 1-5 at Sevilla CF (matchday 12).

The toughest task in the month is the visit to Atlético Madrid, the Madrilenians have been impressive on this campaign and they’re living their best start ever: clinching 11 wins and 1 draw after 13 matches. Simeone’s team is the only side in la liga that has won all their official matches disputed at the Calderón stadium during this season (7 in liga, 3 in the UEFA Europa League and 1 in Copa Del Rey). They have won their last five official games and look like the only ones that can dispute the liga title to Barca; definitely one of the worst places to search for the points.

Then Depor will host Real Valladolid, another recently promoted club, but that’s living a more comfortable situation at the standings thanks to their five wins on the season.  Two of those victories came with the team playing away from home: 0-1 at Real Zaragoza (matchday 01) and 0-1 at CA Osasuna (matchday 10).

December ends with the visit to RCD Espanyol , the current last place at the standings and the only club that already changed the coach. Javier Aguirre debuts this weekend visiting Granada CF and dragging a painful negative streak of three straight defeats plus a humiliating elimination in Copa Del Rey before Sevilla CF (aggregate 1-6). The Catalans have only won once on the season at home: 3-2 Vs. Rayo Vallecano (matchday 08).
