Deportivo will try to make signings in the coming days; the club is not used to sign during the winter windows, but the current situation in liga is pushing the club to search for reinforcements.

The winter window opens its doors on Wednesday and Deportivo is ready to make some moves. Despite already having a squad with 26 players, the club understands that it needs fresh air in order to change the current poor results in la liga.

Depor already made a move, though it isn’t a signing: the exit of Roderick Miranda, the centre back is returning to SL Benfica after not having too many chances with Oltra. The departure of the Portuguese defender means that there are two empty slots at the first team. Still, the club could try to open the door to other players without too many minutes in order to make room for more reinforcements.

In this sense the candidates to leave are centre midfielder André Santos and left-back Tiago Pinto, two players that have barely played on this season. It has been also informed that the club tried to cancel the contract of centre midfielder Jesús Vázquez, though there was no agreement with the Andalusian man and he’s staying.

About the positions to reinforce, the club is open to strengthen all the positions, with the exception of the goal. The exit of Roderick leaves a gap at the centre of the defense; actually it is commented that Deportivo is trying to find a replacement in the same place where Roderick is returning: SL Benfica. In this sense it is commented that Sidnei Rechel da Silva Junior (23) is a target of Lendoiro.

Another name linked with the club within the last hours is centre midfielder Paulo Assunção (32). The media in Brazil informed on Friday that the ex-Atletico Madrid man has just cancelled his contract with Sao Paulo and that he received an offer from Deportivo. It is also probable that the Galicians will try to sign another striker, something that was close to happen within the last days of the summer window.

Deportivo is not a club used to make signings during the winter window. Within the last five years the Blanquiazul outfit has only made four signings in January. Three of them on the season 2010/11 as Lotina’s Deportivo signed the arrivals of strikers Xisco and Pepe Sand plus winger Javito. Only Xisco had some impact after scoring twice, but it wasn’t enough to avoid the relegation.

More productive was the arrival of winger Christian Wilhelmsson, who was the revulsive of the season 2007/08helping the team to leave the bottom places and secure a spot in European competitions. Perhaps the best winter signing of the last ten years was the arrival of Fabricio Coloccini, who arrived in January of 2005 after Depor paid €3 million to AC Milan.
