Tough game for Deportivo B, but Devesa’s boys knew how to resolve the puzzle in the second half after failing some clear chances in the first part. Vela was a key player as he gave the two assists. Iván and Róber also played a good game.

Coach José Luis Devesa lost centre-back Pablo Insua, who was picked by Domingos Pacięncia for the trip to Pamplona. Keeper Ricky Alonso, centre midfielder Richi and centre-back Marcos Caridad were out injured. This last played suffered a muscle strain that’s sidelining him for a month. Juvenil A goalie David Gómez and centre-back Róber were part of the team, the latter one was a starter.

The draw still was a 4-2-3-1. Marc Martinez defended the goal; Iván Garrido performed at the right-back position, Ángel Martinez played at the left side, while Róber joined Uxío at the centre of the defense. Oumar Sidibé and Paulo Teles were the centre midfielders, Álvaro Lemos covered the right wing, Jorge Romay was the playmaker, Diego Vela attacked from the left and Luis Fernández was the central attacker.

The rival was UD Barbadás, an Ourense-based club that’s trying to avoid the drop zone. The team coached by Jorge Regal arrived to Abegondo after only adding one victory within the previous seven matchdays. Former Fabril’s captain Diego Vieytes was a starter at the centre of the defense.

Deportivo had the needed patience to break the deadlock of a team that arrived to Abegondo with the only mission of keeping the clean sheet. Within the first 30 minutes the locals had big problems to create scoring chances, mainly due to the mark over Paulo Teles, later Fabril found the cracks and was effective enough to score the goals at the precise moment. Neither the weather conditions helped as at some moments in the game as the pouring rain affected the performance of both sides.

Teles was constantly fouled throughout the game and provoked two yellow cards, including the one over Vieytes. Barbadás knew that one of the keys was to make him feel uncomfortable on the pitch and Fabril suffered the consequences despite having the ball possession, they barely created any opportunity within the first half an hour. The first scoring opportunity in the game was a free-kick of Alejandro Oliveira Óli´ without consequences.

Vela and Lemos had big problems to overcome the mark and it was a side defender, Iván Garrido, who helped to unclog the offensive game of Depor B. And it’s that the ex-Real Madrid constantly joined the attacks and it was him who released the first two dangerous crosses for the locals, actions that were wasted by Vela and Lemos.

But suddenly Depor B accelerated and had five clear opportunities before the half-time mark, the clearest chance was a short-range attempt of Vela that was saved by visiting goalie Carlos Alberto Pérez ‘Berto’ (32’). This action occurred after a deflected shot of Teles. Five minutes later Luis sent the ball into the body of the keeper after another good cross coming from Iván, the ball hit the chest of Berto and went out. The half ended with a chance wasted by Ángel (44’), and before that there two opportunities for Lemos (39’ & 43’).

For the second half, Devesa switched the positions of Vela and Lemos and it suited perfectly as both turned to be a real threat for the visitors. Barbadás were still putting pressure over Teles, but now the wingers of Fabril were feeling more released. Depor B never lost the patience and stroke and the precise moment as the first goal arrived just when the locals were starting to get anxious.

It was a drilling cross of Diego Vela that was seized by Álvaro Lemos to score his fourth goal in the competition. It was a long play that began with an exchange of passes between Marc Martinez and Róber and that ended with a big collective error from the visiting side, because the cross should have been cleared by Alberto or Fredo, but inexplicably both allowed the ball to pass until getting into the path of Fabril’s striker.

Then there was a frame of twenty minutes in which Deportivo B retreated and the visitors tried to push up front, but they never knew how to step into the rival’s area. It was the moment of Róber and Sidibé, two players that were vital in the defensive tasks of Fabril.

Devesa ordered the first substitution and Víctor Diaz replaced Lemos, then the locals regained the control over the actions and pushed for the second goal, a booty that was found nine minutes before the final whistle. Once again it was Vela the assistor and this time Luis Fernández was the one scoring the goal. It’s the seventh goal for the Pichichi at the team. The winger entered by the centre and drilled a perfect pass that the striker connected at the edge of the area.

Fabril even had the chance to score more goals, but Vela hit the crossbar with a shot from the edge of the area and the loose ball was found by Romay at the penalty spot, but the playmaker incredibly sent the ball into the hands of the keeper when he was alone before him. The last two modifications meant the entry of Jorge Cano and Adrián Martínez replacing Iván and Teles.

Deportivo B returned to winning ways after losing the derby and clinched its eighth straight home victory. It was a hard match in which Devesa’s boys could only unlock the rival’s defense starting at minute 30, still the goals arrived until the second part. The result leaves the team at the fourth position at the standings. On Sunday, Fabril will pay a visit to relegation-troubled Bergantińos CF (17h00 CET).

Comments of Devesa: ”We still having some anxiety that prevent us to take the leader earlier in the games. You can notice as we are trying to play with quick passes, and sometimes we cannot identify some situations in which there are enough cracks to find the opposite goal. These are very important three points and a very important victory for us.”
