PREVIEW: GETAFE – DEPORTIVO (LIGA)

02 Feb 2013
Deportivo target to clinch the first away win of the season and do it with Riki and Pizzi as the main references. Kaká will make his debut. The rival is trying to regain the momentum lived at the end of the past year.

STATISTICS: TWO FALLEN CLUBS
Getafe CF and Deportivo arrive to this meeting living their worst moment on the season; the Galicians lost the impulse after the arrival of new boss Domingos Paciência and have suffered two straight losses, reason why they are the bottom club in la liga. The Madrilenians, meanwhile, have been unable to clinch a victory within the last six matchdays; actually they’re now at the same distance of Europe than of the drop zone (8 points).

Deportivo continue to be the worst defense in the league, now with 45 goals allowed, but Getafe is also having problems in this department as they have leaked 35 goals, it’s the sixth worst mark in the league. It’s also the seventh visit of the Blanquiazul outfit to the Alfonso Pérez Coliseum and they already clinched three victories there, the last one a 0-2 win back on the season 2009/10 with goals scored by Mista and Filipe Luis.

Finally, this is the match number 1,400 for Deportivo playing at Primera División. So far the Galicians have added 535 wins and 344 draws suffering 520 defeats, scoring 1908 goals and allowing 1986. Depor represent the 14th club in Spain that reaches this mark. The other clubs in this list are Real Madrid (2,593), FC Barcelona (2,593), Athletic Bilbao (2,593), Valencia CF (2,495), RCD Espanyol (2,457), Atlético Madrid (2,445), Sevilla CF (2,238), Real Sociedad (2,133), Real Zaragoza (1,969), Real Betis (1,597), RC Celta (1,529), Racing Santander (1,426) and Real Valladolid (1,411).

DEPORTIVO: PIZZI & RIKI
If Depor want to clinch the permanence one of the main factors to have in mind is the combination between striker Iván Sánchez Soto ‘Riki’ and winger Miguel Afonso Fernandes ‘Pizzi’, because combined these two players have scored or assisted in 16 of the 26 goals scored by Deportivo on this league season, which represents the 61.5% of the total. Riki is the current Pichichi at the squad with eight goals in favour and three of those goals were assisted by Pizzi.

So, the salvation passes from seizing the productivity of these two players; after all Deportivo’s team is the best scorer among the last even places at the standings. A clear example was the equalizing goal against Valencia on the past weekend: the Portuguese winger released a perfect cross in a free-kick to see the Madrilenian striker heading the ball home from close range.

Now both players lead the offensive effort of a team that’s searching for their first away victory on the season, but for now the main concern is located at defense, because Domingos’ team is not only the worst defense at Primera, but it’s also facing the meeting with several casualties. Centre-backs Carlos Marchena and Aythami Artiles are injured, which forced the coach to pick Pablo Insua from Fabril and to name new signing Kaká as part of the squad despite the Brazilian only completed one training with his team mates.

Besides, right-back Sílvio and centre midfielder Paulo Assunção are suspended. In the end its expected a 4-2-3-1 figure for the match, Aranzubia stays at the goal, Manuel Pablo covers the right-back position, Evaldo Fabiano returns from a muscle problem and plays at the left, while Kaká will debut playing alongside Ze Castro at the centre of the defense.

The pivotes are Álex Bergantiños and Abel Aguilar Javier Camuñas is the playmaker in the scheme; it the fourth time in which he’s a starter in la liga; finally Bruno Gama joins Pizzi and Riki in attack. It has been a quit season so far for Bruno as he has only scored two goals plus providing two assists.

Marchena and Aythami are joining Laure at the injury room, while Valerón surpassed an ankle sprain and entered into the list for the game. The players left out of the game due to tactical reasons are left-back Ayoze and centre midfielder Juan Dominguez, while Pablo Insua was pulled from Fabril in order to be an alternative on the bench.

Álex talked before the game regarding the rival, ”Getafe is a strong team that doesn’t need too much n order to create scoring opportunities and they also defends pretty well. Truly the environment at their stadium isn’t so warm, but what matters is what we do on the pitch and we must think of the rival and not of what’s going on at the stands.”

About the current situation at the standings, the Galician midfielder said that, "Surely our first round hasn't been good in terms of numbers, but it doesn't mean that we won't win eight matches in the second round. The goal is to win seven or eight matches in the remaining of the season."

Riki was critic with the current numbers of the team in la liga, ”16 points are too little at this point in the tournament and there are no more excuses. If you don’t win then it’s useless to see the others losing. It’s also true that the referees are taking more things from us that what they are giving, but if we’re the last place it isn’t for the referees.”

Finally, Abel Aguilar believes that this is a crucial game for Deportivo, ”It is a situation where we have to win, any other result is useless. Tomorrow is a great opportunity to see the team regaining the confidence and I believe that this need should create will and hope in us, without falling into pressure.”

List of picked players: (18) Aranzubia, Lux (goalkeepers); Manuel Pablo, Kaká, Insua, Ze Castro, Evaldo (defenders);  Álex Bergantiños, André Santos, Jesús Vázquez,  Abel Aguilar, Bruno Gama, Pizzi, Salomão, Camuñas, Valerón (midfielders); Riki & Nélson Oliveira (strikers)

GETAFE: AT NOWHERE’S LAND
December 1st, Getafe was clinching their third straight victory after beating high flyers Malaga CF (1-0); the result put the Madrilenian team at the sixth position, an encouraging result after a confusing pre-season characterized by the scandal at the moment of selling the club. It was the peak for coach Luis Garcia Plaza as his team was in an ascending line targeting the European spots.

But it turned to be exactly that: the peak. Because the downfall started immediately as Los Azulones failed to clinch a victory in the following six liga encounters, they just added three points in the period and as result they are currently lying at the 12th position at the standings, in the midpoint between relegation and Europe.

So, the game against Deportivo is understand as an important clash that will determine the course of the team for the final stretch of the season, especially taking in mind that the next match is the visit to FC Barcelona. Ex-Depor Borja Fernandez explained the current situation, ”I don’t like to talk of Europe. If in the end we are there, then perfect, but we aren’t there yet. What we must try to do is to win on Saturday. We don’t want to be struggling for the permanence and neither to be in nowhere´s land. Let’s hope we can fight for something more, but the first thing is to win on Saturday and then we will see what happens.”

For the game Luis Garcia is losing ex-Deportivo Albert Lopo and left-back Miguel Torres due to suspension, but recovers playmaker Abdelaziz Barrada and winger Pedro Leon, plus the incorporation of new signings Sergio Escudero and Federico Fernandez ´Fede’. Former Deportivo duo Ángel Lafita and Juan Rodriguez are out injured.

Therefore there are some modifications at the 4-2-3-1 draw, mainly at defense; Escudero and Fede have just arrived, but they do it at the right time in order to replace suspended Lopo, Miguel Torres plus Abraham, who was sold to the Bundesliga. Miguel Ángel Moyá remains at the goal, ex-Atlético man Juan Valera performs at the right-back position, Escudero debuts playing at the left and Fede does the same joining ex-Sevilla Alexis Ruano at the central positions.

Ex-Malaga Xavi Torres and former Depor Borja Fernández cover the pivote functions. Borja wasn’t among the preferred player of the coach, but lately he has entered into the plans and is playing his fifth game on the campaign. Pedro Leon was picked for the game as he needs match, so Diego Castro moves his position to the right wing, the ex-Sporting man is the Pichichi at the team with only four goals scored.

Barrada, who scored the goal in the match of the first round, returns from the African Cup and covers the playmaking function. Ex-Valencia Jaime Gavilán plays at the left wing and the central striker is Adrián Colunga, who has only scored one goal in liga. The striking line of Getafe is one of the “weakest” at Primera as the four forwards at the team have only scored six goals, a curiosity as Depor’s top-scorer –Riki- has so far netted eight goals by himself.

List of picked players (18): Moyá, Codina (goalkeepers); Alexis, Fede, Rafa, Escudero, Valera (defenders); Lacen, Sarabia, Gavilán, Diego Castro, Barrada, Borja Fernández, Fraile, Xavi Torres (midfielders); Álvaro Vázquez, Paco Alcácer & Colunga.
