Moved week at Deportivo due to the physical state of the players; there are three men already ruled out of Sunday’s game, while other three are doubtful. Meanwhile, Athletic Bilbao arrive without important casualties.

It was a sweet week at Abegondo after Deportivo picked a fourth straight victory visiting Levante UD, but coach Fernando Vázquez could be paying a high price for the victories as he has faced several injury problems during the week, which is conditioning the preparation of the upcoming meeting against Athletic Bilbao (Riazor, Sunday, 17h00 CET).

Three players are already ruled out of the game; right-back Laureano Sanabria ‘Laure’ still sidelined with a groin injury, while on Monday it was confirmed that centre-back Carlos Marchena is out for the rest of the season after picking a quadriceps strain on his right thigh during the game at the Ciutat de Valencia.

Another casualty coming out from that game is centre midfielder Abel Aguilar. The latest scans revealed that the Colombian sustained a grade I muscle injury on his right thigh. At the beginning he wasn’t ruled out of Sunday’s game, but he hasn’t trained with the team throughout the week and won’t be risked.

Meanwhile, there are three players in doubt for the match. Striker Riki missed the game against Levante due to a hip injury; the Madrilenian joined the trainings on Thursday, but it isn’t certain if he will be available for the meeting against Athletic. Centre-back Ze Castro and striker Nélson Oliveira picked muscle injuries during Thursday’s training session and are now doubtful for the game.

Canarians Aythami Artiles, Manuel Pablo and Juan Carlos Valerón skipped Wednesday’s training session as the coaching staff decided to rest them, but they were already back one day later. Due to the casualties hitting the team Vázquez decided to pick two players from Fabril: centre-back Pablo Insua and striker/winger Álvaro Lemos. The two of them participated in all the training sessions held on the week and could have options for this game.

Athletic Bilbao arrive after suffering three defeats within the last four games, but coach Marcelo Bielsa has been boosted as he’s recovering four normal starters that missed the game against Real Madrid due to suspension: left-back Aymeric Laporte, midfielder Carlos Gurpegi -who has been performing as a centre-back- centre midfielder Oscar de Marcos and striker Aritz Aduriz -the top scorer at the team-

Centre-back Fernando Amorebieta will miss the game at the Riazor due to a double injury: knee ligaments and an adductor muscle problem. Right-back Andoni Iraola was dragging a muscle problem, but he’s already recovered and will surely play against Depor. The other two confirmed casualties due to injury reasons are striker Igor Martínez (adductor) and centre midfielder Íñigo Ruiz de Galarreta (knee). Centre-back Mikel San José is dragging a muscle injury, but it’s expected he could be fit for the game.

On these days there are two things calling the attention of the fans; the first is the announced departure of Amorebieta in order to join Fulham FC, and the second is the announcement made by Radio Cadena Cope about the exit at the end of the season of Bielsa, it’s expected that his replacement is going to be José Ángel Ziganda, the former coach of CA Osasuna currently working with the B squad (Bilbao Athletic).
