One of the worst games for Deportivo B on this season; the rival presented a solid strategy and deserved the victory, but they wasted too many opportunities. Despite losing two points at home, Fabril remain at the third position.

Diego Vela was out of the game after picking an adductor injury in the previous meeting against CCD Cerceda, so coach José Luis Devesa was unable to repeat the scheme of previous victories. Richi, Cano and Dani Iglesias were the others players out injured.

The lineup was a 4-2-3-1 figure. Marc Martinez defended the goal; Iván Garrido performed at the right-back position, Adrián Martínez played at the left side, while Pablo Insua and Uxío were the centre-backs. Oumar Sidibé joined Paulo Teles at midfield, Álvaro Lemos attacked from the right wing, Jorge Romay was the playmaker, Víctor Díaz covered the left side of the attack, and Luis was the central striker.

The rival was Racing Vilalbés; a team that last season was fighting for the promotion spots, but that currently is only thinking of securing the permanence. Coach José Antonio Prieto ‘Cata’ was having the important casualty of Oscar ‘La Magia’ Martínez, the Pichichi at the team [brother of Fabril’s Adrián Martinez]

Disappointing presentation of Deportivo B at Abegondo as the heavy power in attack of Devesa was unable to surpass a well-placed rival that deserved a better outcome. Racing Vilalbés put pressure in attack and played with an advanced defensive line, enough to break the dynamic of a Fabril used to create several scoring opportunities..

Things were equal during the first minutes, with both teams having a chance to score within the first ten minutes. First it was Víctor Díaz, who released a dangerous cross from the left that was cleared by defender Roberto Prieto (4’). Five minutes later Justino Campello threw a corner-kick that was hardly cleared by Marc Martínez.

In the following minutes Depor B claimed the ball possession, but it was unable to create scoring opportunities, mainly as the defensive line of the rival was dismantling all their efforts. Without Vela the right attack of the locals lowered its performance, especially since Lemos wasn’t matching the lever of previous matches. Actually, the left side, with Adrian Martinez and Victor, was looking more active.

Racing Vilalbés had two clear opportunities to score the first goal; at minute 34’, Ernesto González ‘Enri’ assisted Mauro Poratti, but the Argentine midfielder failed to score from close range when Marc Martinez was already defeated, and two minutes later Iván cleared the danger when Enri was close to score.

Ironically, Depor B were going to score the first goal, just when the rival was the side making the merits to deserve it. It was a cross of Lemos that was poorly cleared by the defense, the ball accidentally hit a rival and Luis Fernández was wiser enough to get the loose ball and score his 17th goal on the season with a powerful shot from close range.

The goal raised the intensity in the game as Racing Vilalbés pushed strongly for the equalizer, but the side that had the best chance was Fabril, this since Luis had a great opportunity to score the second goal in a one-on-one action before visiting goalie José Ángel, but he couldn’t complete the shot on target.

The second half witnessed an unequal match between a Racing Vilalbés that harassed a Fabril that, unusually, looked too flat. And the best example of this was that the visiting team only needed 25 seconds in the second part to equalize the match. After the kick-off, Justino assisted Alberto Lamas ‘Make’ with a long throw coming from defense, and the winger scored the equalizer with a shot from inside the area.

It broke the plans of Devesa, who during half-time had replaced Iván with Ángel Martinez, a move that was searching to find more depth on the left wing as Adrian Martinez was switched to the right. And precisely it was Ángel who missed to clear the ball in the play of the goal. The true is that Fabril was a flat team unable to create dangerous plays, just a wide shot of Lemos (64’).

Instead the side that created the scoring opportunities was Racing Vilalbés, led by a Justino, a midfielder that was present in all the attacking actions of his team. He was the one that released the cross that met Erni, who hit the crossbar with his header (51’). That was the most dangerous play for the visitors among the five chances they enjoyed in the final stretch of the meeting.

Fabril pushed  within the final ten minutes and Devesa allowed the entry of Álex Pérez and Róber replacing Víctor and Uxio, but the locals were unable to do anything. The last chance to score was a free-kick of Luis that hit the wall and then ended in a corner-kick (90+2’)

Flat game of Deportivo B; Devesa’s boys were surprised by the daring tactic of the rival and barely created scoring opportunities; Racing Vilalbés even deserved the three points and only their lack of aim left a point at Abegondo. The best news from the matchday is that the other to direct rivals, Pontevedra CF and SD Compostela, drew in their games, so Fabril remain at the third position keeping a four-point distance with the five place and with only four games remaining. On next Sunday, the team visit relegation-troubled SD Negreira.

Comments of Devesa: ”It was evident that they knew us, they had studied us, so it was hard for our team. We tried to impose our pace and were unable to do it. We needed individual actions in order to break the deadlock and also failed too much. Today we lost the ball in too many occasions and were unable to surpass Vilalbés. There were too many fouls and it cut the pace, the referees need to dominate this. The point was good for how the things were in the game, a bittersweet taste for us as we wanted the three points.”
