Deportivo will have important casualties for the home meeting against Atlético; four of the normal starters are out, while Diogo Salomão remains doubtful. Atlético Madrid was touring in Azerbaijan during the week.

Coach Fernando Vázquez is having big problems to prepare the game against Atlético Madrid (Riazor, Saturday, 22h00 CET). Four of his normal starters are already out of the meeting, starting with centre-back Carlos Marchena, who already missed the last two games due to a quadriceps strain.

Left winger Pizzi and left-back Sílvio Azevedo are ineligible for the meeting due to their loan contract with Atlético. In the case of Pizzi he’s also out suspended and is dragging an ankle sprain, reason why he hasn’t trained during this week.

The other normal starter that’s out of the match is centre midfielder Abel Aguilar; the Colombian is suspended after picking a fifth yellow card in the past game against Real Betis, besides he’s dragging a muscle problem that sidelined him from the trainings during this week. A fifth player already ruled out of the game is right-back Laureano Sanabria ´Laure´ (groin).

Diogo Salomão should be the natural replacement of Pizzi, but it turns out that he remains sidelined with a calf injury, same problem that kept him out of the game against Real Betis. On Thursday, Fernando Vázquez said that it’s almost certain that the Portuguese winger will miss Saturday’s match.

There were other two players dragging physical problems during the week: keeper German Lux (sinusitis) and centre-back Aythami Artiles (psoas). But both men were already recovered by Thursday and should be available for the game against Los Colchoneros. Fabril’s Álvaro Lemos and Pablo Insua were picked for Thursday’s training held behind closed doors at the Riazor.

The team training at the Riazor on Thursday

It has been a strange week for Atlético Madrid; Los Colchoneros traveled to Azerbaijan in order to play a friendly week on Tuesday, it seems out of place, but totally understandable taking in mind the €12 million sponsorship contract signed back in November. The stage ended on Thursday and it was so exhaustive that the club decided to make the trip to A Coruña until Saturday, the day of the game, this in order to rest the players.

Still, the match against Azerbaijan stars (3-0 win for Atlético) was played by the normal substitutes, actually men like striker Radamel Falcao were left on the bench for the full ninety minutes, so the starters at the Riazor shouldn’t be so tired. The only expected starter to face Depor that was part of the starting lineup in the friendly match was ex-Depor Adrián (he played for 63 minutes).

Coach Pablo Simeone has three casualties for the meeting at the Riazor, and the three of them are important. The first is playmaker Jorge Resurrección ‘Koke’ and the second is striker Diego Costa, both men are suspended after picking a fifth yellow card on the season in the derby against Real Madrid.

Koke is one of the pleasant surprises on the season as he’s the best assistor at the team with eight assists in liga –he also netted three goals- while Brazilian Costa is the second best scorer at the squad with seven goals in liga plus providing six assists. The third casualty is related to an injury case: attacking midfielder Arda Turan, who has been off for the past month due to an ankle injury. He’s training apart and won’t be available for Saturday’s match.
