Third time that Juan Dominguez is named the player of the month at Deportivo; the Galician midfielder is now a fixed starter and was in the list of the best players during the four matches disputed in the month, twice he was the most voted man.

For the first time on the season Deportivo spent a full month without been defeated. The positive streak continued and now stretches to seven games and significantly, the leaders within the squad are beginning to make their mark on the pitch. The ex-diamond of Fabril, Juan Dominguez, shines brightest of all.

Deportivo continued to add points in March to supplement the vital victories against RC Celta and RCD Mallorca at the end of March. 8 of 12 points were added during the month, with 9 goals scored and 4 conceded. Victories over Real Zaragoza (3v2 on Matchday 30) and Levante UD (0v4 on Matchday 31) were followed up by draws against Athletic Bilbao at the Riazor (1v1 Matchday 32) and away to Real Betis (1v1 Matchday 33).

No player had a better month than midfielder, Juan Dominguez, who added an amazing 20 points in the 4 games, including back-to-back Man of the Match (MOM) performance against Athletic Bilbao and Real Betis. He also stood out as one of the best players in the great away win to UD Levante, where only his midfield partner and mentor, Juan Carlos Valerón, received more votes in the eyes of the Peña members. It’s an impressive comeback for the ex-Fabril star, who had to endure a long spell on the sidelines earlier in the season, time when he didn’t count for previous coaches Jose Luis Oltra or Domingos Paciência.

The voting by the members calls attention to the important contribution of some senior players in the squad. Juan Carlos Valerón’s status in the group is unquestioned and he continues to deliver on the field, even though his third place in the April list of point scorers is due solely to his MOM performance against Levante UD.

Abel Aguilar (2nd place in April) continues to be a reference at midfield sector, while Manuel Pablo and Daniel Aranzubia are doing everything they can to hold a shaky defence together, following the huge blow of losing Carlos Marchena. At the same time Bruno Gama has also started to turn his season around and scored in three successive matchdays (Zaragoza, Levante & Athletic). It’s fair to say that the leaders in the team are finally stepping forward and leading by example.
