The biggest win on the season certifies the participation of Deportivo B in the promotion playoff after Pontevedra CF was unexpectedly defeated. Luis scored a hat-trick in a game decided by the early expulsion of a rival.

Coach José Luis Devesa was missing the presence of Paulo Teles due to suspension; Adrián Martinez was out injured, so the coach had to pick Ángel Fernández from Juvenil A in order to fill the gaps, though he didn’t play in the game. Jorge Cano was returning after surpassing an injury, so only Richi and Dani Iglesias were the others players out for injury reasons. Javier Fernández Abruñedo, ‘Bicho’ was picked for the game again and this time he was a starter.

The lineup was a 4-2-3-1 figure. Marc Martinez defended the goal; Diego Vela performed at the right-back position, Ángel Martínez played at the left side, while Pablo Insua and Uxío Marcos were the centre-backs. Jorge Romay delayed his position on the pitch and joined Oumar Sidibé at midfield, Álvaro Lemos attacked from the right wing, Bicho was the playmaker, Víctor Díaz covered the left flank, and Luis Fernández was the central striker.

Celtiga CF arrived to Abegondo without anything at stake as the team coached by Manuel Nuñez was already relegated after only adding five victories on the season. Striker Juan Luis López ‘Juanito’ missed the game due to injury reasons.

Everything was pointing to a big win for Depor B, and it turned to be the biggest victory of the season, though the result might be deceiving, because Celtiga gave a hard battle until it was reduced to tend men and after a doubtful penalty was called by the referee. Still, Fabril had enough chances to score more goals, including two disallowed goals.

Celtiga were already relegated, but it was a hard rival within the first fifteen minutes, they never created any problem to Marc Martinez, but were blocking all the roads to visiting goalie Alejandro Vila. And it all changed after a counterattack in which Luis was facing the keeper one-on-one, the striker fell down after Vila tried to clear the ball with his feet, referee Novás Benavides whistled the penalty and the goalie was shown a red card. The play was highly protested by the visiting team.

Coach Manuel Nuñez decided to take off striker Federico Plevak in order to allow the entry of second keeper Adrián Cascallar, and Luis was going to score the first goal in the meeting with a precise shot into the right post. Depor B dominated the actions after the goal, while Celtiga spent the time locked at the back zone.

In the major part of the first half they were able to resist, actually the only chance for the locals in the coming minutes was a mid-distance shot of Ángel that missed the target (36’). Bicho had a placid game and show in his first appearance as a starter, though helped by the passive attitude of the rival.

The second goal came one minute before half-time; Ángel was assisted by Bicho and passed the ball to Luis, who was standing at the edge of the area, then the striker flicked the ball into the left corner of the box, Victor Díaz arrived on time to score with a precise shot into the top-right corner of Adrián. The locals had a double chance to score the third before the rest, but the shot of Luis was blocked and in the rebound Sidibé missed the target.

Celtiga surrendered for the second part; they were no longer putting pressure at midfield and Depor B had no problems in scoring four goals; actually they scored two more goals that were disallowed, both of them by Bicho.

The third goal came in a direct free-kick at the edge of the area that was perfectly executed by Luis. Then Devesa moved the bench and allowed the entries of Adriá Gallego and Álex Pérez replacing Ángel and Bicho, the latter had a decent performance in his first meeting as a starter.

And only three minutes later the substitute striker was going to appear to score the fourth goal in the match. Romay begun the play eluding four rivals at midfield, then drilled the ball to the left wing and Álvaro Lemos sent a precise cross that Álex Perez headed into the net. It’s the 4th goal in liga for him, and the assist number 13 for Lemos.

The game was already broken at this point and the goals were just knocking at door; the fifth arrived in a new combinative play by the centre of the attack, Vela drilled the ball into the box, Romay tried to score, but his shot was blocked by Adrián, butiit returned into the path of the playmaker, who just chipped the ball into the centre, place where Luis was standing to head the ball home.

It was the hat-trick for Luis Fernández and his goal number twenty on the Tercera season. In this way he’s the fourth player that nets 20 or more goals with Fabril during this century – The others were Jorge Rodriguez (28, 2003/04); Carlos García (26, 2002/03) & Jonathan Carril (22, 2004/05)-

Things got worse for Celtiga as defender Unai Bermúdez was sent off at minute 77 with two yellow cards, at the same time Devesa completed the changes allowing the entry of Jorge Cano for Diego Vela. And the best goal in the game came at the last minute; Sidibé assisted Víctor Díaz, who ended releasing a powerful bomb from outside the area and into the net. It’s the 8th goal on the season for the winger.

Convincing presentation of Fabril before a weak rival that gave a hard battle within the first half; it’s the biggest score on the season and everything was possible thanks to the aim and the great form of the attackers. The big news was that Pontevedra CF was defeated by Villalonga FC (1-4), so Depor B extended their lead over the 5th place to seven points, and with only two games in the schedule they already secured their participation in the promotion playoff to Segunda B. On Next Sunday, Depor B visit another relegated club: Narón Balompé (Rio Seco field, 17h30 CET).

Comments of Devesa: ”We have achieved the initial goal and I believe that the team is feeling relieved from the pressure. It’s a pleasure to watch these boys play and we must valorize their work. It is impressive.”
