TERESA HERRERA: AC MILAN 1 - ATLETICO MADRID 0

12 Aug 2006
Atl?©tico Madrid suffered its first defeat of the pre-season in the Teresa Herrera tournament. A goal scored by Ambrosini after a defensive mistake was enough to give the passage to the Italians. Now, they will play against Deportivo in the final of this tournament.

Both clubs played with a low rhythm although the hard tackles were very common to see, especially during the first minutes. Referee Rodr?guez Santiago had to show five yellow cards. The squad presented by Carlo Ancelotti was totally different from the one that played in the Champions league's qualification round. Only Dida and Simic repeated their participation in the starting lineup, while the stars Caf??, Gattuso, Kak??, Serginho and Gilardino were on the bench.

Meanwhile Atl?©tico Madrid took this game as a serious test for la liga, coach Javier Aguirre used a lineup that it's the expected one for the regular season: Pablo and Perea controlling the defensive zone, Torres and Ag??ero as the main references in the striking zone, the offensive potential was also secured with the presence of Maxi and Petrov. However, the Madrilian squad didn't generate too much troubles during the first 30 minutes of the game. Only long-distance shots from Pern?a and Maxi.

But the performance of Milan was also very poor, the Italian squad was lost on the pitch until the beginning of the second half, it was then that the goal arrived. The defensive zone of Atl?©tico failed to clear out the ball after a cross from the left, Ambrosini took advantage and sent the ball to the back of the net. Atl?©tico tried to react and they were near to achieving the tie with a powerful shot of Luccin that Dida cleared out for a corner-kick.

Aguirre tried to change the scene and he ordered the entrance of Mista and Galletti, but it wasn't enough. Dida saved his team on a couple of occasions and Milan achieved the final victory. Now the Italian squad will face Deportivo in the final, while Atl?©tico will have to play with Nacional for the third place.
