REACTIONS TO THE VICTORY IN LIGA

02 Sep 2013
Fernando Vázquez explained that the team changed the strategy for the second half and that this switch explains the victory. Borja Bastón was happy with his debut and especially with his brace.

Coach Fernando Vázquez commented that the key was the change made for the second part as Depor were more offensive, “I would say that within the first twenty minutes it was hard for us to find our position before the game of Sabadell. The long throws were damaging us, and little by little we changed the outcome. For the second half we fixed some errors and advanced our position, so we improved. The team matched the level and it’s possible that Sabadell decreased theirs.”

“I already said it before; we made some corrections. I previously tried to do it in the first half from the sidelines. I believe we were too delayed and the rival was damaging us with their passes. We weren’t closing the play as we should. We knew this is a team that likes to play, to have the ball possession and to combine, so we thought that we could play on the counterattacks. It didn’t’ work in the first part and we made some adjustments. I don’t know if this was the key, perhaps it was the fact that Depor were able to keep the same level while Sabadell decreased their performance. I don’t know. We weren’t fine in the first part; the long passes were affecting us. If we planned the game like this it was because we knew that Sabadell is a team that likes to attack.” The Galician coach added.

Finally, Vázquez analyzed the promising debut of Borja Bastón, “He’s a recognized player in the national football and we bought him trying to recover him, let’s see if he can improve. He’s a great player and is ours, with some conditions with Atletico Madrid in case we sell him, but I wasn’t surprised, what happens is that he was lucky to score the goals. This is why we bought him.”

Precisely, Borja Bastón talked to reporters and was happy with his performance, “I’m very happy with my debt and especially with the victory. These three points are important playing in a tough field. If besides it is scoring goals, the better. We’ve a good team and can lie at the top without problems. We must go game by game, following the same path, and let’s see where we end.”

The Madrilenian striker also commented the possible arrival of Geijo to Depor, “I came here in order to help the team and to try to score the goals that they need. If another striker has to come, then he will be welcomed. Competence is good. This was a positive debut. I’m happy. I have only spent four days with the team and am adapting. Little by little I’m going to improve.”

Juan Carlos was the first substitution made during the second part; he wrote on his Twitter account that, “What a great game today! Let’s continue in the same way. Many thanks to everyone and especially to the fans that were today at the stadium. Forza Depor!”

Kaká commented that, “This is very important to us; we were coming after a home loss and we entered thinking of the victory. We knew it was very difficult and we managed to score the goals in the second part. “

“The coach decided to put the team in a more delayed position during the first part, but in the second half we decided to move forward and talked to the coach about it We needed the victory and it isn’t good to be only waiting for what the rival will do. We changed the draw and scored the goals. We had more opportunities and were able to seize the opportunities.” The Brazilian defender added.

At Sabadell, coach Javi Salamero also commented that both halves were completely different, “In the first half my team was more intense and created more danger, and in the second there were too many facilities. Since the 0-1 we were against the tide and we tried more with the heart than with the head. We need to fix many details as we lacked tension in defensive tasks, but we must remain quiet.”

Defender Carlos Hernandez was feeling sorry as his team has allowed a lot of goals in the last two matchdays, “Any defender hates to allow goals, especially when you allow five in just two matches. In any case we still have time in order to fix the errors and improve.”
