MATCHDAY 07: HEAVEN FOR RECRE, HELL FOR CASTILLA

02 Oct 2013
For the first time on the season there were no draws during one single matchday, while Recreativo is the first team that’s able to stay at the top of the standings during two straight matchdays. Castilla about to break a negative record.

Matchday 07 is the first one without draws during the Liga Adelante season 2013/14; the differences during the games weren’t so big, because 7 of the 11 games disputed in the weekend were narrow wins. Other big news is that, for the first time in the tournament, the leader of the competition was able to retain the spot, this after Recreativo de Huelva achieve d a big win visiting Real Zaragoza (1-2).

However the runners-up failed in the attempt to keep the position, this after SD Ponferradina lost visiting CD Mirandés (1-0), the latter is the next rival of Depor and is back into the promotion zone after two straight losses. The new second place is Córdoba CF after the Andalusians clinched a 2-0 win hosting direct rival Girona FC, both goals were scored by ex-Depor Xisco.

Together with Recreativo, the other big surprise on this start of season is Real Murcia. On the weekend they beat CD Numancia and are now third at the standings. Sporting Gijón came back from the previous setback and clinched a suffered 3-2 win hosting SD Eibar. Meanwhile CD Lugo is fifth after a demolishing 3-0 victory over UD Las Palmas, in this match ex-Depor Aythami was sent off for the Canarians.

Deportivo are now only one point below the promotion zone, this time the Galicians clinched an important 0- 2 win visiting Hércules CF. Los Blanquiazules are now tied in points with AD Alcorcón; the Madrilenians came back from their previous defeat at the Riazor and beat Deportivo Alavés (2-0)

At the bottom, the most revealing case is Real Madrid Castilla. The Madrilenians are establishing negative marks as they haven’t added points after seven matchdays. On this opportunity they lost 1-0 visiting CD Tenerife. It’s the only second tier club in Europe that hadn’t added points at this height of the competition and is the third case of a Segunda club that loses the first seven matches, the predecessors were Escuela Hispano-Arabe (1939/40) and Athletic B (1995/96).

CD Tenerife was the only team at the drop zone that was able to add points, because Real Jaén were trashed visiting CE Sabadell CF (3-0) and Hércules CF lost at home before Depor (0-2). Finally, RCD Mallorca continued with its recovery process and chained its fourth straight game adding points as they defeated Barcelona B on the road (0-1)
