MATCHDAY 10: NO WINS FOR THE LEADERS

23 Oct 2013
For the first time on the season the first six teams at the standings missed to achieve the victory. At the same time three of the four teams in relegation added points. The situation is pretty tight at Liga Adelante 2013/14.

Complicate weekend for the leaders as the six first places skipped the victory, though it wasn’t totally negative as there were lights and shadows.  The first two places only got a draw, but it was positive. The big game of the weekend was played between leaders Recreativo de Huelva and CD Lugo at the Nuevo Colombino stadium. The Galicians were winning 0-3 by minute 65, but three goals within the last twenty-five minutes rescued a miraculous point for the Andalusians.

Meanwhile, Real Murcia clinched a goalless draw at UD Las Palmas despite playing with ten men since minute 25, the Murcians even had to perform with nine players within the last twenty-two minutes after suffering a second expulsion. The draw of Deportivo hosting Real Zaragoza (1-1) can also be described as a positive result as the Galicians allowed a late goal that was neutralized during the stoppage time.

The big losers were Sporting Gijón and SD Ponferradina; the latter fell from the promotion seats after a shocking loss hosting relegation-troubled CD Tenerife (0-1). The Asturians, meanwhile, lost visiting Girona FC after the Catalans scored twice within the last twenty minutes (2-1).

The big winner was Córdoba CF, because their 1-0 win over CE Sabadell CF allows them to reenter into the promotion zone. The Andalusians have been within the first six places in 7 of the 10 matchdays played so far. Only Recreativo de Huelva have a better mark (8). RCD Mallorca continued with its recovery process and beat Real Madrid Castilla (2-0), it’s their fourth win within the last five games, now the Majorcans are only separated from the promotion spots due to the goal difference rule.

If the leaders failed in this matchdays then the bottom clubs lived their best weekend so far, only Real Madrid Castilla lost its game during the weekend. Hércules CF were close to achieving a victory visiting CD Numancia, but a goal in the stoppage time left the score in a 1-1 draw. Meanwhile, Real Jaén got an important 1-0 victory hosting AD Alcorcón and the big win was the 0-1 of CD Tenerife, Depor’s next rival, visiting SD Ponferradina.

SD Eibar clinched an important victory hosting CD Mirandés (1-0) and Barcelona B bounced back after their recent poor form with a 3-2 win visiting Deportivo Alavés. Now the situation is pretty tight in the league as only six points are separating sixth place Sporting Gijón from 19th spot Real Jaén.
