Big test for a Deportivo that want to demonstrate its candidacy to promotion; Fernando Vázquez is ready to repeat the lineup of the last game. Recreativo arrive to the game as the leaders in the league, though having important casualties.

Two clubs fighting for the same goal, but through different ways. Recreativo de Huelva are the leaders at Segunda División thanks to their offensive capacity. The Andalusians have netted 25 goals after 12 matches; it’s the best mark in the league and the best since the 30 goals betted by Real Betis during the Segunda campaign 2010/11. The problem for Los Albiazules is the defense, because they have conceded 16 goals, the worst mark –tied with Real Murcia- among the first ten places.

Deportivo, meanwhile, have reached the third place at the standings in a very different way. The Galicians have only scored eleven goals, which is the second worst mark among the first 16 places –the worst is CD Mirandés with 8- but this lack of power is covered by its strong defense. And it’s that Los Blanquiazules have only allowed 7 goals, the best mark on the season and the best in the league since the five goals leaked by Hércules CF during the campaign 2011/12.

To make things more interesting the match represents a confrontation between the best local team and one of the best visitors. Recre are only one of the three team in the league that haven’t lost yet at home –the others are Córdoba CF & CD Numancia- and have only dropped four points after six home meetings. Depor, meanwhile, are together with the same Recreativo the best locals with four victories after six games on the road.

This is the 37th visit of Depor to Huelva in order to play a league match and the Galicians only clinched two victories there, curiously it was during the last two matches disputed at the Nuevo Colombino stadium. The last was during the Segunda season 2011/12 with a goal scored by Valerón (0-1).

Recreativo de Huelva have been the best team in the first quarter of the Segunda tournament, with only two losses and presenting the best scoring record in the league. So, the visit to the Nuevo Colombino stadium represents a big and interesting exam that will help valorizing the real aspirations of Deportivo at Liga Adelante 2013/14.

Two years ago Depor responded pretty well to the big games, with los Blanquiazules clinching two wins before RC Celta and two draws against Real Valladolid. At the time both were the stronger opponents to Depor in the race for promotion, now Recre is in the path of matching that level. Truly the circumstances are different as now the Galicians are having a much short and unbalanced team, but the goal is the same and needs the same big effort.

During the week German Lux was commenting the current situation at the standings, ”At the beginning I didn’t think we were going to be so high at the standings. About our football it’s clear that we are a team under construction. The true is that everything is pretty tight and all the teams are winning games, even the ones at the bottom. We must seize this opportunity to cut some points to Recreativo.

Coach Fernando Vázquez had many injury concerns during the week and had problems in order to prepare the game; he had to improvise several positions during the training sessions and even tested twice with a starting formation having four full-backs. Luckily, several players recovered in time for the trip. Therefore, the coach is ready to repeat the same 4-2-3-1 formation that clinched the 2-0 win over Real Madrid Castilla playing at the Riazor.

German Lux is the starting goalkeeper; Laure performs at the right-back position, while Manuel Pablo keeps playing on the left. The central position at defense are Pablo Insua and Carlos Marchena, the latter is coming after his sensational goal against Castilla.

Juan Dominguez and Álex Bergantiños are the central midfielders, Dominguez sustained a neck problem in the last training session, but he remained in the list for the game and  probably will be fit to play.

Portuguese Rudy performs at the right wing; his compatriot Luisinho does it at the left. Juan Culio is the playmaker and Borja Bastón is the central attacker. The Madrilenian is the best scorer at the team with five goals added to his tally. The interesting thing is that four of those goals were netted with Depor playing on the road (braces against CE Sabadell CF & Hércules CF).

Centre-back Kaká didn’t recover in time from a back problem and joins midfielder Cezary Wilk and winger Álvaro Lemos at the injury room. But striker Javier Arizmendi is back after surpassing a back injury. Finally, playmaker Bicho is the only Fabril’s player that’s part of the trip to Andalusia.

Manuel Pablo commented during the week that the players are feeling happy for been third at the standings despite the criticism for the game of the team, ”We celebrate to be there, which is better than been lower at the standings, but we’re conscious that there are things to improve and that there are teams doing things better. We know this game is going to be complicated and I believe it will be pretty equal.”

Meanwhile, striker Luis Fernández was saying that he’s feeling relived after scoring his first goal in liga, ”It was simply a matter of anxiety; I always scored goals in the past, I wasn’t doing it and the striker lives of the goal. The stats in the world of the strikers are what prevail and it’s resumed in goals. I wasn’t doing it and now the first has arrived.”

List of picked players (18): Lux, Fabricio (goalkeepers); Laure, Manuel Pablo, Seoane, Luisinho, Insua, Marchena (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Juan Domínguez, Juan Carlos. Antonio Núñez, Culio, Bicho (midfielders); Luis Fernández, Rudy, Arizmendi & Borja Bastón (attackers).

The last five years have been pretty difficult for El Decano; after suffering the last relegation at Primera during the season 2008/09, the Andalusian outfit lived the usual dark days of any relegated club, dealing with a huge debt that dragged the club to administration and suffering the consequences at Segunda División. After ending ninth in their returning campaign to Liga Adelante they were unable to end among the top ten clubs within the following three years, even they were close to suffer the relegation to Segunda B on the season 2011/12 (ending 17th).

Now things are looking different, because Recre are the leaders in the league after only dropping ten points within the first twelve games, even establishing a new record in the club’s history with six straight wins. The key is the offensive potential of the team: 25 goals in 12 matchdays and ten different scorers. Coach Sergi Barjuan, a former known defender of FC Barcelona, arrived one year ago and is succeeding with a team that was supposed to only fight for the permanence.

Another of the keys is that Sergi has been able to successfully combine a team full of veterans, like winger Jorge Larena and ex-Depor midfielder Jesús Vázquez, with a few but important young talents like striker Joselu Moreno.

But for the meeting against Depor some of the best men in attack will be unavailable. The Pichichi at the squad, Manuel Jesús Arana with eight goals added to his tally, is out injured.  Same thing happens with attacker Jonathan Valle, while playmaker Álvaro Antón is suspended. So, the coach will have to make changes and the main novelty is the presence of Chilean winger Felipe Gallegos, the 21-year-old player has only performed for 145 minutes on this season.

Sergi will keep the 4-2-3-1 figure of past meetings with some novelties up front. Veteran Jesús Cabrero is the starting goalkeeper. The main doubt is who is going to perform at the right side of the defense. Daniel Cifuentes was the starting choice, but he skipped the last two meeting with a muscle elongation and captain David Córcoles has made a great job performing on the position. Any of them could be a starter in the game.

Uruguayan Hernán Menosse and former Las Palmas Ruymán Hernández are the centre-backs, while Fernando Vega performs at the left side. Ex-Depor Jesús Vázquez and Dimas Delgado are the centre midfielders, the latter is a former centre-back of Barcelona B now relocated at midfield territory.

The attacking line present several novelties; Jorge Larena is switched from the left wing in order to perform in the playmaking function, ex-Villarreal José Luis Moreno ‘Joselu’, one of the pleasant surprises of the season, perform on the right wing, Chilean Gallegos enters in order to perform at the left and former Elche man Miguel Linares is the central attacker. The 31-year-old striker is the second best scorer at the team with six goals in favour in twelve league appearances.

Jesús Vázquez talked before the game and stated that Depor shouldn’t put extra pressure on the players regarding conquering the promotion, ”From the outside I believe it’s an error to assume the need of clinching the promotion yes or yes, just like it happened two years ago. At the time the team was assembled for that. A lot of people with the needed level stayed, but the former squad has nothing to do with it. If Depor are demanding this from themselves then they are wrong. The team must try to stay at the top; it would be wonderful to lie among the first two places, but it won’t be bad to take part of the playoff.”

Joselu was also talking of the game, ”We are the best scorer in the league. We’ll see it on Sunday. They work pretty well in defense and if we’ve patience then we’ll have our possibilities. If we score soon then Deportivo will show their cracks. They’ll surely fight to get the direct promotion. We assume it for the squad they have and for the club they are, but we’re mentalized to win this game.”

Finally, Centre-back Menosse was describing the role of his team for the match, ”We are the leaders, play at home, so we are forced to add. We are facing Deportivo, a team from Primera that’s going from less to more and that comes here in order to take some points, for this reason whoever has to play must be highly focused. If we win then we’ll take some advantage and it will be pretty to do it in front of our people.”
