The Argentine playmaker told coach Fernando Vázquez that he’s interested in the option of Al Wasl FC and the next step was to visit Lendoiro. The president told him that he won’t allow his exit. The Emirati club is searching for other prospects.

Juan Culio hasn’t addressed the media since returning from the Christmas break and after it was known that United Arab Emirates club Al Wasl FC was interested in him. Instead the playmaker has directly talked to the key persons at the club in order to express his wish to leave Depor.

He firstly talked to coach Fernando Vázquez and informed that he was open to accept a possible offer; Depor’s trainer already knew that the player wanted to leave; during Monday El Profesor addressed the media and said that, for him, a key thing to keep the player is to negotiate and offer a larger contract to the Argentine man.

On Thursday the player made the next move and visited Plaza de Pontevedra in order to talk to president Augusto César Lendoiro. Depor’s boss told him that he won’t allow his exit, especially since Al Wasl FC hasn’t contacted the Galician club in order to present an offer. In other words Deportivo won’t allow the exit of the playmaker for free.

In any case Lendoiro told the player that he will have to wait for the next president in order to negotiate an exit. Lendoiro’s term ends on January 22, only one week before the transfer window closes its door, and it doesn’t guarantee anything to the player, because the main candidate to win the elections, Tino Fernández, already expressed his will to keep the player.

The true is that Al Wasl FC is pretty active in the market and it isn’t clear if they are ready to present an offer for Culio, because there are other targets. On December 29, they announced the signing of Turkish defender Yalcin Ayhan. Mohammed Al Ameri, a board member of the club, told to paper The National that, “We are definitely looking to strengthen the team in the January transfer window and Yalcin Ayhan is the first of the changes. There are a few surprises that we will announce, but after our next match with Al Ain (played on Friday), which brings the first half of the league to an end. The picture will be much clearer after that.”

In this way the name of Culio is just one of the candidates to reinforce the Cheetahs; there are other names that have been mentioned for the same position as Portuguese Hugo Viana, Argentine Pablo Batalla and Brazilian Victor Simoes.

Culio’s exit would mean to search for a replacement in the transfer window and the club will need to convince the LFP about allowing signings, something that seems complicated as the club exceeded the salary cap during the summer transfer window. It still to be determined what will be the attitude of the player; for the moment he has maintained silence and keeps training with normality.

Culio has been an important player on this season; despite being constantly booked he only missed two games, both for suspension, and is the main assistor at the team (4). Vázquez has used the player mainly in the playmaking function, but also at the left wing.

Note: Late on Friday it was known that Culio presented an offer to the club. There are no details on the amounts, only that Al Wasl FC is trying to get the playmaker. The club and the Bankruptcy Administration must now decide what to do.
